**About the Position**:
The HSE Coordinator will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining our health, safety and environmental program to comply with applicable legislation and industry standards in Canada and the USA. As we have recently entered the U.S. market, this is a great opportunity for someone looking for a new challenge in H&S. The HSE Coordinator will be responsible for managing multiple third-party verification services (ISN, Avetta, Complyworks) and multiple WCB accounts. There will also be some cross-over with human resource activities including onboarding staff, scheduling regular testing and training, and assisting with employee benefits.
**Other Duties and Responsibilities**:
- Develop, implement, and maintain health and safety policies and procedures.
- Conduct regular inspections and audits to ensure compliance.
- Develop and deliver safety training programs for employees.
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-misses and provide corrective actions.
- Act as a liaison between management, employees, and regulatory agencies (OHS, WCB, FRA, OSHA, etc. in Canada and the USA) regarding safety and environmental matters.
- Maintain safety records and prepare reports for management, customers, and regulatory agencies.
- Conduct safety meetings and maintain safety committee records.
- Promote a culture committed to health, safety, and environmental excellence.
- Build mutually respectful and constructive relationships with staff, vendors and customers.
- Act as a resource on all HSE related matters to provide coaching, mentoring, and advice to employees.
- Work with management team to develop KPI’s that add value and drive improvement of HSE program.
- Participate in the evaluation and approval of subcontractors and vendors.
- Conduct regular observations of work habits and work conditions.
- Audit the Group of Companies Health, Safety and Environmental Management System to ensure the overall integrity of the system is maintained (internal audit).
- Prepare for and oversee external COR audits, as required.
**What you bring to Our Group of Companies**:
- Two to three years experience in a safety role and the COR audit process.
- Experience managing WCB and third-party vetting accounts.
- Eagerness to work in the field and document work processes for hazard assessment analysis and safe work procedures.
- Desire to forge and grow positive relationships with multiple groups.
- Ability to remain objective and maintain a factual perspective when dealing with questions and inquiries. Be seen as a trusted resource.
- Self-motivation, ability to work independently and multi-task.
- The skills to manage multiple priorities simultaneously and meet the time demands of unpredictable activities.
- Capable of handling pressure and challenges in a dynamic business environment.
- Highly developed interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
- Ability to compose and deliver reports or information to management or groups of employees.
- Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Office skills.
- Valid Drivers License and Clean Driver’s Abstract.
- Desire for a new challenge and the opportunity for growth.
**Other Experience (**_**not required, but would be an asset**_**)**:
- Experience in the Rail Industry.
- Experience with equipment (skid steers, forklifts, etc.)
- Certified Health and Safety Auditor (our Certifying Partner is AASP).
- Experience with U.S. Health and Safety Regulations and WCB Insurance.
- Safety Designation.
- Field experience in oil and gas, rail, construction, or related fields.
