Student HSE Coordinator
What You’ll Be Working On
Our internships and Co-ops are designed to provide you with a business relevant project that will allow you to independently manage your own area of responsibility, while receiving support from an assigned Supervisor and Technical Mentor. We’ll help you discover your strengths and development areas in a challenging, fun, and supportive work environment.
We are seeking a student to join us for a 4-month co-op position starting in May 2026. This position will be based out of Edmonton.
Responsibilities- Working with the site HSE Coordinators to support site supervision with implementation and management of the Bird Safety Program.- Works closely with Site HSE Coordinator regarding the development of site-specific safe work practices, procedures, and hazard assessments.- Participates in regularly scheduled health and safety inspections of the workplace and documents/posts these inspections in conspicuous locations on the job site.- Follows up on all corrective actions’ items noted during ongoing inspections in the workplace and participates and/or takes the lead role in the investigation into incidents in the workplace- Maintain statistics and records and monitor accident/incident frequencies and safety violations.- Works with HSE Team to ensure trade contractors comply with the Bird Construction HSE program and applicable regulatory acts and regulations.- Participates and/or leads regular scheduled safety meetings.- Assist the HSE Coordinators with conducting risk assessments and developing risk management plans.- Provides site specific orientation to workers and/or visitors new to the job.- Provides first aid assessment and treatment for workers.- Perform other duties as required.
Who We Need On Our Team- You are currently enrolled in Health, Safety, and Environment diploma, degree in Science, Biology, Environmental, Engineering program or similar- You will complete at least one more semester of education following your internship and possess a GPA of 3.0 or higher- Ability to lead and operate within an environment where change happens frequently- Ability to forge, grow and maintain positive relationships- Exemplify the Ideal Team Player - Hungry, Humble, Smart- Highly developed interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills- Sense of urgency and strong commitment to achieving goals- Ability to work collaboratively with a positive attitude- Residency, or a valid work permit which would allow you to work for Bird Construction or one of our wholly owned subsidiaries- If you are selected for a role with client specific requirements, you may be required to successfully complete a pre-employment Medical and/or Alcohol & Drug testing.
