The Alberta Human Rights Commission works with Albertans to promote awareness of, and appreciation for, human rights and diversity. Its overall goal is to develop inclusive communities in which all Albertans can participate in the social, economic, and cultural life of the province without discrimination.

The Alberta Human Rights Act establishes the Alberta Human Rights Commission to carry out functions under the Act. The Commission is an independent Commission created by the Government of Alberta. The Commission has a two-fold mandate: to foster equality and to reduce discrimination. It fulfills this mandate through public education and community initiatives, resolution and settlement of complaints of discrimination, and human rights tribunal hearings.

The Alberta Human Rights Commission is currently seeking one (1) permanent Southern Complaint Registrar.

Reporting to a Director of Complaints Management, the Southern Complaint Registrar functions within applicable legislation, regulations, policies, directives, and guidelines.

The responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

- Coordinating informational and operational functions essential to the delivery of confidential inquiry and complaint services.
- Providing information on the complaint process to the public, parties to human rights complaints, and stakeholders.
- Providing analytical, consultative, system administrator, training, and coordination services relating to IT resources critical to Commission business operations. Ensuring comprehensive statistical information and reports relating to the work of the Commission are developed, analyzed, and provided in a timely manner.
- Providing well-reasoned and timely advice on trends and issues related to incoming complaints, public requests, IT operations, and other operational matters.
- Supporting the Commission in achieving its mandate and goals.

The position requires expert knowledge in the various areas of:

- Analytical, conceptual, and problem solving skills for assessing statistical information.
- Time management and organizational skills, including ability to multi-task and prioritize multiple responsibilities with concurrent deadlines.
- Interpersonal, persuasion, and influencing skills to de-escalate situations with the public.
- Principles of natural justice and administrative fairness.
- Human rights and inclusivity principles.
- Alberta Human Rights Commission business goals, strategic priorities, organizational structure, culture, and the relationship to the government and Ministry as an independent commission.

Education and Professional Experience Required:

- Two-year diploma in a related field (such as paralegal, social sciences, administrative, or information technology) plus five years progressively responsible related experience; or equivalent as described.
