**Child Protection Worker (Child in Care)**
**Permanent - Indigenous Focus Service Delivery - English Position**
NOTE: For the purpose of this posting, the primary function of the vacant position has been identified. The scope of work for positions identified as Family Services Worker Intake, Family Services Worker Ongoing and Child Services Worker requires flexibility between the roles. Case assignment will be based on operational requirements and determined by the supervisor.
**The Position**:
Provides investigative and protection services with a focus on serving First Nations and Metis children, youth and families within established procedural guidelines and time frames as provided by both the Child, Youth and Family Services Act and the Society. This responsibility is performed through appropriate consultation with the supervisor.
The incumbent is also required to maintain client records in accordance with Society and Ministry Standards including contact logs, investigation documentation, assessments, outcome plans, social histories and other required reports. The worker will also prepare appropriate legal documents for cases going before the courts, according to Society and Ministry guidelines. The incumbent will work with multi-challenged youths and families and will be required to work a flexible work schedule to respond to and/or meet the client need and the Society's organizational requirements.
**Qualifications**:
- BSW, MSW or Bachelor’s degree in a related field with relevant work experience;
- 2 years experience working with children and families;
- Knowledge of Child and Family Services Act (CFSA), Ministry standards and guidelines related to child protection and Society policies and procedures is an asset;
- Knowledge of the community resources and services;
- Demonstrated knowledge, skills and abilities to effectively work and engage with indigenous peoples;
- Familiarity with the Truth and Reconciliation report and recommendations is considered an asset;
- Demonstrated knowledge and respect of First Nations, Inuit and Métis culture, heritage and the historic relationship between child welfare and Indigenous peoples and the intergenerational impact of colonization;
- Demonstrated knowledge of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada Calls to Action, OACAS commitments, recommendations of the Missing & Murdered Indigenous Women & Girls Report and the CYFSA regulations with respect to Indigenous children in care to redress the legacy of residential schools and advance the process of reconciliation
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the culture, history and current oppressions experienced by people related to gender identity, gender expression and sexual orientation faced within the 2SLGBTQIA+ communities.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the culture, history and current oppressions experienced by Indigenous peoples and racialized communities.Applies anti-racist, anti-ableist, anti-colonialism, anti-heterosexism and anti-cissexism lenses to social problems.
- Demonstrated analytical, assessment and interviewing skills;
- Strong interpersonal, conflict resolution, creative problem solving and decision making skills;
- Excellent ability to create and maintain positive working relationships;
- Superior verbal and written communication skills
