**The Unit**
The Centre for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning (The Centre) is a faculty development unit that works in collaboration with faculty and graduate students to provide leadership, expertise, and support in fulfilling the teaching and learning mission of the University of Manitoba. The Centre contributes to the practice and scholarship of teaching through guidance, collaborative problem-solving, and research with respect to teaching and learning effectiveness, curriculum planning, and institutional policies and infrastructure to optimize the learning and teaching experiences of students and faculty.
**The Position**
Recognized for its evidence-based foundations and innovations in teaching and learning, the Centre for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning (The Centre) is an interdisciplinary faculty development unit that collaborates with faculty and graduate students to provide leadership, expertise, and support in fulfilling the teaching and learning mission of the University of Manitoba. To accomplish this we work with faculty to develop, implement, research, and evaluate various aspects related to teaching and learning in higher education.
Through this position, The Centre will play a key role in the development of specific resources and programming for instructors around Indigenous education. The incumbent will be responsible for designing and creating resources to promote Indigenous perspectives of teaching and learning and evaluating the usefulness of those perspectives within the University of Manitoba. The incumbent will play an important role in the development and maintenance of the Collaboratory for Indigenous Teaching and Curriculum and develop resources for integrating Indigenous knowledges into the teaching and learning settings.
**Position Duties**:Curriculum design, development and delivery, and faculty support, 70%; Community building and networking, 20%; Professional development and training, 10%. This position will report to the Senior Team Lead, Development and Consultation.
**Day-to-day activities Include (but are not limited to)**:
- Develop pedagogically sound resources for the integration of Indigenous perspectives into post-secondary teaching and curriculum.
- Teach face-to-face professional development sessions for faculty regarding the integration of Indigenous perspectives into post-secondary teaching and curriculum.
- Develop evidence-based resources (both print and electronic) for teaching and curriculum development within the area of Indigenous post-secondary education. Resources to be used for web development, faculty development, presentation, etc.
- Consult within the University of Manitoba with faculty and instructors interested in incorporating Indigenous perspectives into their courses and or curriculum.
- Provide pedagogical feedback to faculty around incorporating Indigenous perspectives into courses/curriculum materials in post-secondary education.
- Assist faculty in integrating Indigenous perspectives into their teaching, courses, and curriculum.
- Participate in the design, development and delivery of various faculty development initiatives and events within The Centre and external University of Manitoba community.
- Coordinate the work of project team members on designated educational and/or faculty development projects and organize content and meetings, coordinate project, and produce deliverables when required.
- Initiate and maintain relationships with faculty to create a network for teaching support and development.
- Collaborate with other teams within The Centre to complete faculty development projects including Educational Technologies, Flexible Learning, Research and Evaluation, and Operations.
- Contribute to communities of practice by writing, editing, and updating evidence-based documents for teaching and curriculum development within Indigenous post-secondary education.
- Independently manage internal and external workload and work collaboratively with other members of The Centre, external units, and community partners to ensure that all work is completed professionally and accurately.
- Writing reports, executive summaries, and project reports and adapting written materials for various audiences.
- Remain current with established and emerging trends in both Western and Indigenous perspectives in education and pedagogical practices and Indigenous post-secondary education.
**Qualifications: Formal Education and Training**
- Preference will be given to individuals who have lived Canadian Indigenous experience and an extensive knowledge and experience with Indigenous cultures, communities, protocols and practices; established community relationships is an asset.
