**Indigenous Cultural Coordinator**
**Start Date: As Soon As Possible**
**Salary Range: $57,933.19 to $78,380.20**
**Location: Henlow Campus**
**Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm (35 hours/week)**
Reporting to the Manager, Indigenous Initiatives & Community Development, The Indigenous Cultural Coordinator is responsible for the management, budget, coordination, planning, and execution of small to large scale events involving Indigenous Initiatives & Community Development. This position is linked to enhancing the College’s reputation, inclusion of reconciliation efforts and relationship building with Indigenous communities. Works collaboratively with other MITT departments regarding Indigenous focused events and Indigenous inclusion. The Indigenous Cultural Coordinator will work closely with MITT’s Knowledge Keeper/Elder program assisting with the coordination of traditional, cultural teachings and MITT program requests as well as be an assistant to the knowledge keepers/elders. Maintain and coordinate daily operations of Aazhogan Indigenous Centre.
**Responsibilities include but are not limited to**:
Indigenous Cultural Coordinator Duties:
- Coordinate events and opportunities to enhance and promote MITT’s commitment to reconciliation and Indigenous inclusion; weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual events.
- Provide learning opportunities for students, staff, faculty that include Indigenous perspective and worldviews
- Enhance the reputation of MITT through events by developing and setting event standards for the college, ensuring continuity of all events.
- Coordinate/manage all logistics associated with such events; budget, negotiate contracts with vendors/suppliers, décor, protocols, agendas, presenters, audio/video, manage invite and RSVP lists, supervise volunteers, etc.
- Solicit, train, supervise and motivate volunteers.
- Organize and coordinate presenters, suppliers/vendors, senior management and colleagues to ensure a smooth execution of an event.
- Create planning documents communicating all details associated and provide clear direction for all involved. Communicate duties, responsibilities and timelines to achieve the objective.
- Compile all expenses for each event and provide a detailed budget for costs associated. Examine and source out alternative resources when possible, to decrease expenses.
- Collaborate with others on my team and across the college to obtain materials and complete tasks that are coordinated and delivered on time with the desired outcome.
- Train department staff and oversee department lead events.
- Ensure Calls to Action and Indigenous perspective is included during the coordination of events.
- Connect with and work collaboratively with Indigenous community members and organizations when and where necessary to coordinate events.
- Maintain the day-to-day operations of Aazhogan Indigenous Centre.
- Represent Indigenous Initiatives department on selected committees both internally and externally as needed.
Knowledge Keeper/Elder Helper Duties
- Work cooperatively with Knowledge Keepers/ Elders to coordinate schedules for their time at MITT.
- Interact with MITT departments to encourage classroom inclusion and respond to Knowledge Keeper/Elder requests from internal departments.
- Organize cultural events and teachings throughout the year for staff and students of MITT (ie. Traditional Teachings, Quarterly Feasts, Cultural Workshops etc.).
- Ensure Calls to Action, a focus on reconciliation and Indigenous perspective is included in during the coordination of events.
- Coordinate events to enhance and promote MITT’s commitment to reconciliation and Indigenous inclusion.
- Connect with and include external Knowledge Keepers/Elders with specific areas of expertise.
- Assist Knowledge Keepers/Elders with daily needs including accompanying to classrooms when required.
- Process honorariums for Knowledge Keeper/Elders.
**Required Qualifications and Experience**:
- A combination of related education and experience may be considered._
- College Diploma in Business Management, Project Management, Indigenous Studies, Community Studies or related field.
- Certificate in Management Development, Project Management, Indigenous Studies, Community Studies or related field.
- Equivalent combination of experience and education.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience working with Indigenous people/communities.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience planning and organizing events and cultural activities.
