**About Creditor Practice**
Our Creditor Practice team represents chartered banks and other financial institutions for the collection and recovery of secured and unsecured retail debt. Our team performs collections for a number of financial institutions and credit card providers. We also represent mortgage insurers for whom we are responsible for enforcement and collection on their deficiency judgments.
**Core Duties and Responsibilities**
As a Paralegal in our Creditor Practice Team, responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Daily updating of file statuses via financial institution systems (online highways) and document management system;
- Communicating regularly with lawyers, financial institutions, sub-contractors, and adverse parties;
- Closely managing various deadlines based on applicable provincial legislation;
- Preparing detailed calculations with respect to assigned accounts; and,
- Ensuring the accuracy and completeness of client/file information within document management system and the electronic highways.
**Qualifications and Skills**
To be successful, you possess the following qualifications and skills:
- Graduate of a Paralegal diploma program or equivalent combination of training and experience;
- Exceptional proofreading skills with ability to notice and fix grammatical, typographical, spelling, diction, and formatting errors.
- Ability to work independently, take initiative, and follow instructions with mínimal supervision;
- Superior communication skills and the ability to deal directly with clients and debtors;
- Propensity for contributing to a positive and collaborative culture;
- Proven ability to manage time and demonstrated ability to handle multiple priorities in a deadline driven work environment;
- Aptitude for critical thinking, problem solving, and making sound judgement calls; and,
- Adept at using technology such as Outlook and the full Microsoft Office suite, and a talent for learning new computer programs quickly.
