The Human Resources Services team consists of functional units such as HR Operations (Payroll and Data Management, HR Client Services, HR Systems Strategy, Reporting and Analytics), Talent, Equity & Development, Health, Safety, Wellbeing & Labour Relations, and Total Compensation, Benefits & Retirement Programs, who enable the delivery of comprehensive Human Resources programs and services in collaboration with leaders, HR area offices and HR practitioners across our community.
As the **Health, Safety, Well-Being & Labour Relations Administrator**, you will report to the Executive Director, Health, Safety, Well-Being & Labour Relations, and provide administrative support of a specialized nature to the Health, Safety, Well-Being & Labour Relations portfolio, which includes the following Centres of Expertise: University Health & Safety (UHS), Workplace Health & Well-Being Strategies, Employee Health & Well-Being, and Employee & Labour Relations (ELR). This support requires a thorough understanding of employment, labour relations, and health, safety & well-being processes, as well as a general understanding of collective agreement administration, the laws and regulations affecting employment, health & safety, and labour relations in Ontario, and human resource management. The pro-active and efficient support you will provide sets the overall Health, Safety, Well-Being & Labour Relations team up for success in their delivery of service and advice to the University community and in their contributions to the Human Resources Services’ mission.
Key areas of focus will include:
- Data tracking, record management, analysis, and reporting of specialized and sensitive employment matters
- Providing confidential, specialized administrative support for activities such as collective bargaining, joint health & safety committee meeting, employee well-being events, collective agreement interpretation, and policy development
- Providing general administrative support to senior leaders and a broad team of professionals; and collaborating with internal and external partners to build relationships and to provide service excellence in accordance with Human Resources Services standards.
You will contribute as part of a team, with other administrators in Human Resources Services, toward the overall operational excellence of the department.
You have a growth mindset and are committed to inclusive excellence, operational excellence, and employee-centred service delivery. You consistently demonstrate the values of trust, respect, accountability, integrity, and teamwork in everything you do, and handle matters with discretion and professionalism. You have a community college certificate in human resources/labour relations, or equivalent, and relevant administrative experience working in a complex labour relations environment, preferably in the postsecondary sector. You have general familiarity with Ontario employment and labour legislation and thorough facility with a variety of computer software programs (MS Office 365, SharePoint, MS Teams, Zoom). You have superior written communication and critical analysis skills and an ability to prepare and format reports for professional presentation. Knowledge of McMaster’s policies and procedures, collective agreements, and systems is considered an asset.
