Reporting to the Meals on Wheels Team Lead, the Meals on Wheels Assistant provides support with the administrative tasks, records keeping, service set-up, sorting and delivery of meals and other products. The employee is required to perform a variety of tasks in connection with the auxiliary duties in the operation of the Meals on Wheels Department.

Meals on Wheels Assistant will be adhering to food handling methods according to established standards of sanitation, infection control and safety. Keeping work area clean and sanitary according to Lumacare policies and procedures and Public Health practices and protocols.

**RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- To deliver meals to older adults and individuals living with disability including those who are unable, for a variety of reasons, to prepare meals for themselves
- To provide contact with a friendly, caring volunteer on an on-going basis
- To provide a link with the outside world in order to alleviate a sense of isolation
- To provide informal observation of the client to ensure that the client's well-being, health and safety are met Administrative duties; Records keeping and stats entry into CIMS software
- Meals and Grocery items sorting, packing, and labelling
- Ensure timely delivery of food and other items to clients
- Assist in storing supplies and extra stock while maintaining compliance with health and sanitation standards
- Make follow-up calls to clients
- Adhering to food handling methods according to established standards of sanitation, infection control and safety.

**EDUCATION, SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE**:

- One-year related experience in a food services environment, preferably an institutional setting
- Knowledge of computer skills is required
- Physically able to deliver meals to client's doors
- An understanding of and interest in seniors and issues pertaining to seniors
- A willingness to make a real difference in your community
- A willingness to undergo a police/background check
- Previous experience in administrative setting is an asset

**ROLE REQUIREMENTS**
- Current **Vulnerable Sector Police** check required completed within last 12 months is required
- This position requires you to be **fully vaccinated** against COVID-19 and you must provide Lumacare with proof of vaccination prior to employment.
- Immunization for tuberculosis, chickenpox, mumps and hepatitis B is strongly urged.
- Ability to work independently in a dynamic and evolving working environment.
- Proficiency in the use of office equipment (i.e., Fax machine, photocopier, postage).
