**Job description**

As the Analytical Chemist at Tersa you will be responsible for elucidating the fundamental biochemical processes enabling our technology. You will be instrumental in providing reliable data that will guide every facet of our technology development. You will be responsible for the upkeep and organisation of Tersa’s new analytical lab, which will be the lens through which we observe our innovative systems. Finally, you will be a part of a multidisciplinary team of forward-thinking experts striving to make the world a cleaner place.

**Responsibilities**:

- Managing staff & operations at Tersa’s analytical lab
- Make recommendations to the team regarding capital investments in analytical and characterization equipment
- Characterising internal and/or external samples using techniques including but not limited to:

- Elemental analysis via ICP-MS
- Total suspended solids, total dissolved solids, total organic carbon
- Alkalinity, pH, conductivity
- Fluid property measurements such as density
- Enzymatic or chemical assays for various feedstocks and biological metabolites
- Interpreting analytical results with the technical team and discussing any sources of error
- Performing acid rock digestion on mine tailings samples
- Helping the technical team to screen and/or develop new methods and assays for sample analysis, resolving potential interferences, guiding process metric selection
- Setting up and maintaining analytical instruments and equipment, such as ICP-MS and HPLC and any future acquisitions
- Maintaining extensive records of laboratory work using physical logs and Benchling

**Qualifications**:

- MSc/PhD in Chemistry or other related field with a strong knowledge of analytical chemistry, or BSc in Chemistry or other related field with 5+ years experience. Other equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
- Experience with operating a wide range of analytical instruments, particularly ICP-MS
- Experienced in laboratory management
- Experienced in independent lab work and assay design
- Great interpersonal communication skills
