Accommodations are available during the hiring process, upon request. - As the Social Program Specialist, you will research, plan, and implement community-based programs, events, and services. Primary duties include: - Research, design, promote, supervise and evaluate programs and services. - Work alongside Indigenous Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and community to design and implement program curriculum and activity learn and uphold local traditional cultural protocols. - Review the program development process, including market research and needs assessment, to ensure customer needs are met. - Prepare program trend analysis to creatively develop course offerings. - Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate program staff. - Liaise and work closely with internal/external partners on program and service initiatives. - Participate in department committees as related to the position. - Conduct daily administrative functions to meet program and service requirements. - Coordinate program equipment and facility needs. - Respond to internal/external inquiries and concerns. - Identify equipment and supply needs and coordinate equipment repairs. **Qualifications** - A completed 2-year diploma in Recreation, Education, Social Work, Kinesiology, or Child Studies with at least 3 years of experience including staff supervision and program development for vulnerable youth, new Canadians, and community partnerships, as well as program development for social based programs, sports programs, day camps, or special events; OR - A degree in Recreation, Education, Social Work, Kinesiology, or Child Studies with at least 1 year of experience in any of the above listed fields. - Experience working with diverse populations and youth is required. - Training, knowledge and familiarity with Indigenous practices and community is required. - Current Intermediate First Aid certification (equivalent to Standard First Aid, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) level "C", and Automated External Defibrillator (AED)) is required. - A valid Class 5 Driver's License (or provincial equivalent), with no more than 6 demerits and no current suspensions or charges pending. - This use of a personal vehicle is required for work. - Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) is required. - Working knowledge of Intelli software, Microsoft SharePoint, and PeopleSoft Human Capital Management (HCM) will be considered an asset. - Lived experience is considered an asset. - Success in the role requires effective communication skills with a focus on leadership and interpersonal relationship building. - Demonstrate knowledge of Social Emotional Learning, Trauma Informed Practice, and the program development cycle. - Ability to work independently and in a team environment. **Pre-employment Requirements** - A security clearance will be conducted. - Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications. - Union: CUPE Local 38 - Business Unit: Recreation and Social Programs - Position Type: 1 Temporary (up to 16 months) - Location: 3810 17 Avenue SE - Compensation: Pay Grade 9 $38.92 - 52.07 per hour - Days of Work: This position typically works a 5 day work week, with 1 day off in each 3 week cycle. - Hours of work: Standard 35 hour work week - Audience: Internal/External - Job ID #: 310807
