We currently have an opportunity for a full-time **Privacy Specialist in the Privacy Office.**
**How the Privacy Specialist supports our teams at Grand River Hospital**:
Under the direction of the Chief Privacy Officer, the Privacy Specialist coordinates the organization’s privacy related activities. The Privacy Specialist will lead the development, implementation and maintenance of processes and policies to ensure compliance with applicable privacy laws and regulations.
**Job Duties and Responsibilities**:
- Develop and manage internal privacy training, and promote privacy awareness across the organization;
- Provide expertise, assistance and leadership on privacy, access to information and release of information matters;
- Lead response process to both internal and external incidents, complaints, and privacy related inquires;
- Provide advisory services, including the review of system access requests, data sharing agreements, contracts, and business processes that require access to PHI;
- Lead privacy impact assessments related to internal and external systems;
- Manage consent directives, PHI review and correction processes;
- Perform regular privacy audits;
- Develop, revise and publish privacy policies, procedures and standards;
- Track and report on privacy risks, remediation activities and status of privacy program activities;
- Monitor privacy trends in the internal and external environment and advise on impact to the organization’s information and privacy practices;
- Liaise with external government and regulatory bodies (i.e., IPC, College of Nurses, Home and Community Care Support Services, etc.)
**At Grand River Hospital, the Privacy Specialist has**:
- Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent work experience
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a privacy-related role, preferably healthcare
- Canadian certification with the International Association of Privacy Professionals (CIPP/C) or an equivalent credential (or must be willing to obtain within 1 year of employment)
- Previous work experience with privacy in a health care setting considered an asset
- Understanding of lifecycle data management (collection, use, transmission, disclosure, and retention of personal and/or confidential business information)
- Demonstrated understanding of shared solutions; Regional/Provincial solutions and legislative compliance related to same
- Knowledge of digital health landscape (i.e., eHealth standards) in Ontario is considered an asset
- Ability to work independently and with limited supervision
- Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in training and presentations
- Responsible, energetic individual with above average ability to organize and prioritize duties
- Ability to thrive in an extremely busy environment; where multi-tasking is essential and the quality of work must not be compromised
- Good attendance record
