**JOB DESCRIPTION**
**Duties**:
- The Business & Economic Development (BED) Team focuses on delivering initiatives, projects,
and activities that advance the switch from fossil fuels to clean electricity and attract new load to
BC Hydro’s service territory.
- This opportunity is best suited to someone who loves working with customers, has strong
commercial acumen, initiative, and the ability to deliver. Relevant experience and a proven track
record in business development is a key requirement.
Duties include:
- Proactively responds to customer inquiries, working with business groups across BC Hydro.
- Conducts customer and stakeholder needs assessment to develop solutions in response to
complex and sensitive queries and issues raised by internal and external clients.
- Facilitates collaboration and creative thinking across business groups to develop and implement
innovative solutions to complex issues.
- Manages business case development for projects, including developing and reviewing
alternatives, financial analysis, and securing executive approvals.
- Applies judgement with respect to the development of project valuation methodologies
(qualitative and quantitative).
- Ensures the purpose, justification, and cash flow profile of proposed spending is aligned with
plan.
- Researches, gathers, and presents supporting information such that business initiatives can be
- communicated and implemented.- Responds to inquiries and requests regarding business cases and business decisions.
- Resolves issues, identifies and communicates risks, and ensures appropriate risk management
initiatives are identified and implemented.- Develops project timelines and manages projects consistent with senior management
requirements.- Works collaboratively with customers and internal business groups such as Key Account
Management, Customer Interconnections, Engineering, Transmission Planning, Project Delivery,
- and Indigenous Relations to ensure business strategies and goals are met.- Builds and manages relationships with internal and external senior decision-makers.
**Qualifications**:
***- 5+ years' experience in business development, or similar experience in a comparable industry
- A university degree in Commerce, Business Administration, Engineering or related discipline
and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience- Strong business acumen and commercial competency
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving capabilities for complex and multi-faceted commercial,
technical, and legal/regulatory issues- Exceptional written and oral communication and presentation skills, with the ability to make
complex information simple and summarize key facts for decision makers- Excellent relationship management, negotiation, and facilitation skills
- Ability to build trust and work collaboratively with staff at all levels including senior management
- Ability to develop and manage large scale, complex projects
- Strong understanding of the regulated electric utility business, in particular BC Hydro tariffs and
interconnection process is preferred- Knowledge of and ability to use Structured Decision Making is an asset

key role in BC Hydro’s electrification initiatives. We’re responsible for creating and implementing
strategies to grow new industrial and large commercial customer load in B.C.
- Our centralized approach to attracting new customers includes working with government and
non-government organizations with similar economic development goals to promote the benefits
of locating in B.C., advising potential customers on connecting to BC Hydro’s system, and creating
load attraction and retention initiatives to remove barriers. We do our work in close collaboration
