Job Summary

(May to September, 37.5 hrs/week / October to April, 18.75 hrs/week)

Under the supervision of the Operations Manager, the Boutique’s Assistant Supervisor assists in ensuring the high quality of bilingual customer service both in the Boutique and in the Satellite Store. The Assistant Supervisor also sells merchandise to maximize revenues, ensures that operational requirements are met, and enhances the experience of visitors to The National Gallery of Canada. You will be responsible for overseeing and processing sales and customer-service related activities, opening and closing operations, and assisting the Operations Manager with the orientation of agency staff on a daily basis. You will also assist with the merchandising of all products, maintaining inventory integrity, and general upkeep of the Boutique. You will act on behalf of the Operations Manager during extended hours of operation, holidays, at all times when the Operations Manager is not available, by fulfilling all related duties.

**Requirements**:

- Successful completion of a university degree or an equivalent combination of education and work experience;
- Recent experience supervising employees;
- Recent extensive experience within a retail operation using a point of sale system in customer service and sales, inventory and cash control (minimum of 2 years' experience);
- Proven track record in retail;
- Knowledge of retail inventory procedures, a point of sale system (Wordstock), spreadsheets (MS-Excel);
- Knowledge of art history;
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills, strong attention to detail, the ability to perform diverse tasks simultaneously, and the ability to work well under pressure;
- Ability to work independently and as a team member within a fast-paced, high-demand and constantly changing work environment.
