- CUDGC is located in Edmonton, Alberta. Board meetings are primarily held in Edmonton but also across the province.

**About the Agency**

CUDGC is a provincial corporation established under the _Alberta Credit Union Act_, with the mandate of providing risk-based regulatory oversight, and a deposit guarantee to enable a safe and sound credit union system in Alberta.

CUDGC’s primary role is to:

- provide a 100 per cent guarantee of deposits held with Alberta credit unions;
- regulate credit unions and enforce the Act;
- review, advise, and direct credit unions on sound business practices;
- monitor credit union performance and, where necessary, implement appropriate actions to improve performance and reduce risks; and
- adjudicate loans of individual credit unions where they exceed specified limits.

**Role Description**

CUDGC's Board is responsible for the governance of CUDGC and overseeing the management of CUDGC’s business and affairs. Most CUDGC Board functions are carried out by two Board committees - Governance and Human Resources, and Audit and Finance.

Board member appointments are made by Order in Council, for a fixed term of up to three years.

**Skills and Experience Required**

Applicants will have:

- previous board experience,
- a strong understanding of the financial services industry,
- well developed communication and interpersonal skills, and
- a high level of financial literacy.

There is also a preference for applicants with experience in information technology, an understanding of the composition and governance of cooperatives, and who reflect the geographic and diverse culture of Alberta.

**Remuneration and Time Commitment**

Board members are paid honoraria as prescribed by the Lieutenant Governor in Schedule 1, Part A of the Committee Remuneration Order (OC 466/2007) effective April 1, 2009 at two times the rate.

Travel and living expenses are paid in accordance with the Treasury Board Directive No. 05/2020 Travel, Meal and Hospitality Expenses Directive.

Time commitment is less than 75 hours annually for regularly scheduled meetings plus travel time and preparation time.

The CUDGC Board and its two Board committees meet an average of four to seven times per year unless additional meetings are necessary to address material developments. Board members also serve as committee members.

Meetings are primarily held in Edmonton but also across the province.
