At the Newcomer Centre, our mission is clear: to support newcomers at every stage of their settlement journey, from arrival to thriving. Through services like employment support, English language training, and community engagement programs, we empower individuals to build meaningful lives while enriching the cultural fabric of Edmonton.

**About the Role**

As a member of the Board of Directors, you will play a vital role in overseeing the strategic direction, accountability and sustainability. Ensuring that our mission aligns with community needs and that the organization operates ethically and responsibly. Board members support the organization through governance, advocacy, and ambassadorship.

**_ Commitment:_**
- Bi-monthly board meetings (September-June), with the flexibility to attend virtually if needed.
- Participation in the Annual General Meeting (June) and Strategic Retreat (October).
- Membership on at least one standing committee: Governance, Audit and Finance, Fund Development and External Relations, or Human Resources.
- Attendance at key events such as Info Sessions, the Rise Awards, and C5 events.

We’re seeking individuals who are passionate about building an inclusive community and committed to celebrating diversity as a strength. Our goal is to form a high-functioning, diverse board that reflects the newcomer and immigrant communities we serve.

- **Financial Stewardship**
- **Leadership and Organizational Support** (HR, Finance, IT/Digital Systems, Health and Safety)
- **Advocacy and Ambassadorship**
- **Immigrant Settlement Sector Knowledge**

**Terms and Compensation**
- This is a volunteer position with a **3-year term**, renewable for an additional 3 years.
- All reasonable travel and related expenses will be reimbursed with prior approval.
