Job Description:
The Communicative Disorders Assistant (CDA) within RVH Children’s Development Services provides speech and language intervention to support the communication and literacy development of preschool children under the supervision of registered Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs). Additionally, the CDA provides intervention for Occupational Therapy (OT) goals for children in communication services under the supervision of the Occupational Therapist (OT), in order to provide integrated goals and treatment. The majority of intervention will be provided to families and other caregivers through a coaching model. Limited direct intervention in both individual and group formats is occasionally provided.

In addition, the Communicative Disorders Assistant provides clinical support to the SLPs through the preparation of treatment and augmentative communication materials and clinically based clerical duties. Travel to and from community locations is required and CDAs may be based in any of the base locations of the Simcoe County Preschool Speech and Language Program across Simcoe County. The CDA may be assigned to support the CDS Intake Desk and the Infant Hearing Program as required.

**Education**:

- Graduate of the Communicative Disorders Assistant Program

**Experience**:

- Experience with communication and other developmental disorders, in particular Autism Spectrum Disorder, in preschool children preferred. Experience providing intervention in a variety of models including coaching and group and individual direct services.
- Experience integrating OT interventions goals and treatment strategies into communication intervention programs.
- Experience with developmental screening preferred.

**Competencies**:

- Knowledge of the electronic symbol communication systems, preschool Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC) systems, Hanen Early Language Programs, adult learning theory and coaching approaches.
- Knowledge of the Integrated Services for Children Information System (ISCIS) and PSL/IHP Outcome Measurement Systems. Basic computer literacy.
- Must possess sound judgment, tact, initiative and flexibility in adapting to a variety of intervention settings under significant workload expectations. Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills. Ability to communicate effectively with families and professionals/caregivers essential.

- Must have valid driver’s license and own vehicle
