Job Summary & Requirements
The Eating Disorder Clinician is responsible for conducting in-depth psychosocial assessments, which include identifying the strengths of children, adolescents, and families. The clinician will assess and incorporate problem-solving abilities, dynamics, interactions, attitudes, feelings, and cultural considerations in relation to the child or adolescent with an eating disorder.

The Clinician will collaborate with the team during the initial multidisciplinary assessment to develop and implement an intervention plan. This plan will include education, coping strategies, and promoting compliance. The intervention will involve a variety of modalities, such as individual therapy, family therapy, group work, consultation, case management, community outreach, and advocacy. The clinician will also identify and refer patients to appropriate supports and resources as needed.

The Eating Disorder Clinician will deliver care using Family-Based Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Eating Disorders. As an integral member of the multidisciplinary healthcare team, you will provide patient care and service navigation for the Simcoe Muskoka Regional Eating Disorder Program, which serves patients aged 25 and under. This role may involve travel between multiple sites.

The clinician must demonstrate strong written and oral communication skills, ensuring accurate and timely documentation that meets both professional college and organizational standards. Proficiency in multiple computer applications is required, as well as strong interpersonal skills. The ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team is essential.

A sound knowledge of community resources and supports, with a focus on child and youth, and transitional young adult eating disorders, is necessary. The clinician must also be able to effectively manage time and prioritize tasks based on need and risk.

Education:

  • Master of Social Work degree or Master of Clinical Counselling from an accredited School
  • Registration with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers or appropriate governing College

Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years of progressive clinical experience in a health care setting
  • Minimum of three years clinical experience providing brief clinical counselling to individuals, families, and groups
  • Strong knowledge of various individual, family and group interventions such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy & Family Based Therapy for eating disorders
  • Minimum of 3 years clinical experience providing individual, family and group therapy to children and teens with eating disorders, within a family context
  • Minimum of 3 years clinical experience in an inpatient, outpatient or day treatment paediatric eating disorder setting preferred

Competencies:

  • Sounds knowledge of the Child and Family Services Act III, Mental Health Act and Consent to Treat Act
  • Understanding of the DSM IV
  • Excellent knowledge and demonstrated use of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Family Based Therapy (FBT) and Dialectical Based Therapy, with an eating disorder population
  • Demonstrated expertise in assessment, psychoeducation, crisis intervention and advocacy skills in working with children, teens and their families experiencing eating disorders
  • Excellent communication, organization, conflict resolution and teamwork skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, changing environment with strong Time Management Skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing learning and the ability to teach
  • Proven ability to organize, prioritize and problem-solve effectively
  • Willingness to travel between ED sites
