**Teen Camp Coordinator**

**FULL-DAY INTEREST BASED CAMPS**

Teen Camp focuses on building interest based skills through themed activities within various locations within the community. Campers come to a community location each week. With the support of our well-trained staff they campers will come home having learned new skills, built new friendships and enjoy many happy memories.

**Description**:The Teen Camp Coordinator is responsible for developing and overseeing a summer camp program for autistic teens under the direction of the Community and Family Services Coordinator.

**Teen Camp Coordinator**

May 29 to June 30th: During this time you will be responsible for the planning and preparation of the camp, conducting camp intakes, and communicating with families. During the last week of preparation before the campers arrive you will be providing training to the Camp Aides. 35 Hours per week.

July 3 to August 22: During this time you will be responsible to lead the camp programs, supporting campers, camp staff and camp volunteers. 40 Hours per week.

**Responsibilities**
- Organize and develop a camp program based on individual and collective needs of the campers
- Ensure the safety, development and growth of all campers
- Organize and develop daily activities in consultation with the Community and Family Services Coordinator
- Provide first line supervision of staff, volunteers and campers including ongoing and end of camp feedback
- Develop effective programming based on individual needs
- Meet with new teens and families prior to the start of camp to ensure the camper is a fit for the program and that their individual needs are met during camp
- Train camp aides and volunteers on effective ways to support individual campers
- Develop and assist in the creation of visuals, social stories and other support materials as required
- Provide communication to parents before camp starts and on a daily basis during camp
- Consult and collaborate with the Community and Family Services Coordinator as required
- Anticipate, assess and report risk management issues
- Prepare incident reports as required

**Qualifications**:

- Minimum of 3 years experience working with children and teens
- Knowledge and understanding of:
Behavioral intervention programs for children with autism, Direct Teaching strategies and philosophy, Natural Teaching Strategies and philosophy

Theory and principles of child development,
- Excellent interpersonal skills, oral and written communication skills
- Excellent problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Individual needs to be energetic and creative, ensuring camp is a fun environment for all campers
- Experience in crisis assessment and intervention skills
- Experienced in supervision skills
- Clean criminal records check
- Clean child intervention check
- Valid Certification in Child and Infant CPR and First Aid

**As these positions are funded through the Canada Summer Job Grant applicants are required to:

- be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period
- are a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the _Immigration and Refugee Protection Act_ for the duration of the employment
- have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations

**Job Type**: Fixed term contract
Contract length: 3.5 months
