Western Engineering Outreach additionally offers workshops and resources for educators to support their vital role in shaping the student experience. Our goal is to make STEM approachable and engaging for everyone. Each year, Western Engineering Outreach hires dedicated high-school and post-secondary student instructors who are passionate about sharing their love of STEM to deliver programs. **Responsibilities**: This position is responsible for overseeing efficient and effective spring and summer outreach program operations, in collaboration with the Western Engineering Outreach Leadership Team, to provide community outreach and engagement opportunities to youth, community partners and teachers in the London & Middlesex Community. Western Engineering Outreach provides a pathway for youth to experience Western Engineering firsthand and start their journey to potentially becoming future students at Western University. The Summer Programs Coordinator will have responsibility for carrying out activities which require higher level specialization of skills. The incumbent will be responsible for providing support to faculty or staff, and for effectively carrying out a variety of tasks related to STEM outreach and the Discover Western Summer Camp in accordance with policies, procedures, and instructions received from their supervisor. The incumbent will take guidance from their supervisor, and work productively and courteously with the Outreach team and other members of the Western community. As part of the duties, the Summer Programs Coordinator may be required to run an off-site camp and stay overnight (e.g., Sarnia and/or other locations). **Qualifications** **Education**: - 2 years of post-secondary education, and be a student returning to studies in the fall - Preference for students studying Engineering, Science, Education or Arts and Humanities **Minimum Qualifications**: - First Aid and CPR-C Certification required - Police Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) required prior to employment start date **Experience**: - Previous leadership experience and/or project management experience - Experience facilitating summer camps or other youth recreation or outreach programs **Skills, Abilities & Expertise**: - Manage the day-to-day operations of outreach programs including summer camp - Coordinate logistics for camp registrations and dealing with camp issues as they arise - Provide effective customer service to outreach program participants and their family members - Assist other Outreach Coordinators in planning and delivery of engaging programming from May through August including programs for children and youth under - represented in STEM - Develop and test age-appropriate STEM activities - Lead the day-to-day tasks of summer staff in collaboration with the Outreach Leadership Team including scheduling - Written and verbal communication skills to express ideas clearly, and adapt communication style to suit the situation and audience - Ability to maintain a positive, outgoing attitude with genuine customer service orientation - Reliable and dependable with the ability to consistently work assigned schedule, including occasional evening and weekend shifts - Ability to follow detailed and/or complex processes and practices with high attention to detail - Demonstrates integrity and works in accordance with Western’s policies and procedures - Ability to multi-task and maintain an organized and effective personal work environment - Computer skills with Microsoft Office, with the ability to learn and use new software programs as required - Personable and courteous in working relationships with colleagues, youth, students and the public - Ability to work independently and effectively as a member of the team to achieve department goals - Ability to work in a manner that is compliant with confidentiality requirements as applicable - Comfortable running off-site camps with overnight stays **Preferred**: - G license, or G2 license and access to a vehicle - Comfort with swimming - Previous experience with Western Engineering Outreach and
