**Full Job Description**
Onua Bakery is an artisan bakery & café specializing in freshly baked artisanal sourdough and African-style bakery products such as bread, cakes, cookies, meat pies, cupcakes, chips, and other pastries.
**Duties**
- Develop and execute a dynamic dessert menu that aligns with the restaurant's culinary direction and seasonal availability.
- Craft a variety of high-quality pastries, desserts, breads, and other baked goods.
- Collaborate with the Bread Lead and culinary team to integrate desserts into overall menu planning.
- Manage inventory and ordering of all pastry-related supplies and ingredients. Ensure product consistency, manage costs effectively, and achieve revenue targets.
- Oversee station production and plating during service.
- Collaborate in menu design and contribute to the culinary creativity of the kitchen.
- Maintain the highest standards of food hygiene, safety, and cleanliness in the pastry section.
- Train and mentor kitchen staff in pastry techniques and best practices.
- Stay abreast of the latest trends in pastry and dessert presentation to continually elevate our offerings.
**Qualifications, Skills, and Conditions**:
- Proven experience as a Pastry Chef, preferably in a fine dining environment.
- Culinary degree or certification in Baking and Pastry Arts is highly desirable.
- Strong foundation in traditional pastry techniques combined with a flair for modern, innovative dessert creation.
- Excellent organizational and leadership skills to manage the pastry section efficiently.
- A keen eye for detail and aesthetics for impeccable dessert presentation.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Passion for culinary excellence and a desire to contribute to a team-driven environment.
- Passionate in cooking and baking, accurate and punctual, good communicator, friendly and teamworking
- Ability to follow recipes and adjust them to suit different products and customer needs.
- Ability to measure and document recipes
- Ability to document processes and procedures.
- Attention to detail and maintaining high standards of quality.
- The ability to communicate in French is an asset

**Salary**:$18.00-$22 per hour
**Physical Demands**: The physical demands this position is exposed to are: The employee will be on feet most of the day. Employee must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
**Experience **in cooking is a must, with a minimum of 3 years required. Additionally, possession of a Food Safe, SafeCheck, Food Handler or equivalent certification is preferred.
**Location**: Ottawa, ON K1N 0E7. Please note that you should be able to reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work.
**Job Types**: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: $18.00-$25.00 per hour
Schedule:
- Evening shift
- Monday to Friday
- Weekends as needed
