**About the Position**
**Job Type**:Full-time Permanent (with benefits)
**Start Date**: Part-time in July-August, moving into a full-time schedule by September.
**Specific responsibilities**:
- ** Program Development & Child Engagement**- Plan, implement, and evaluate age-appropriate programs and activities that promote social, physical, intellectual, creative, and emotional development.
- Actively engage with and supervise children in both outdoor and indoor activities, ensuring their safety, well-being, and positive experiences.
- Foster a positive, inclusive atmosphere that encourages cooperation and respect among children and staff.
- ** Health, Safety, & Compliance**- Ensure compliance with Alberta’s Early Childhood and Child Care Regulations and health & safety standards.
- Maintain a secure, clean, and organized environment that meets licensing and safety requirements.
- Maintain accurate records, including attendance, incident reports, and program evaluations.
- ** Guiding Challenging Behaviours**- Use positive behaviour guidance strategies to support children in developing social-emotional skills and conflict resolution abilities.
- Address behavioural challenges in a calm, patient, and supportive manner, ensuring that all children feel safe and respected.
- Implement developmentally appropriate interventions to manage conflicts and encourage self-regulation.
- Work closely with parents, guardians, and staff to create individualized strategies for children requiring additional support.
- Maintain documentation of significant behavioural incidents and communicate effectively with caregivers when necessary.
- ** Staff Supervision & Development**- Provide day-to-day supervision support to Out of School Care staff and volunteers, ensuring high-quality program delivery.
- Assist with recruiting, hiring, training, and mentoring staff to enhance their skills and professional development.
- Conduct staff evaluations, provide feedback, and facilitate ongoing training opportunities.
- ** Team & Community Collaboration**- Build and maintain positive relationships with parents, staff, and the community to enhance program effectiveness.
- Collaborate with schools and other organizations to expand programming and community involvement.
- Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities.
- Contribute to the development, communication, and maintenance of staff handbooks, policies, and procedures.
- ** Program Administration**- Monitor and manage program budgets, equipment, materials, supplies, and resources effectively.
- Ensure all program documentation is up to date and aligned with regulatory requirements.
- Adapt to changing program needs, assisting with related tasks as requested by the Recreation Programs Supervisor.
**Qualifications**:
- Must be 18+ years old.
- ** Early Childhood Educator Level 3 certification** (as per Alberta regulations). This includes:
- A minimum of 120 hours of approved early childhood education training.
- A minimum of 2,000 hours of supervised experience working with children in a licensed child care setting.
- Knowledge and understanding of child development, behaviour management, and the principles of quality childcare.
- Diploma or degree in Early Childhood Education, Child and Youth Care, or a related field (preferred).
- Minimum of three years’ experience working in a childcare, summer camp, or educational setting, with at least one year in a supervisory role.
- Current Intermediate First Aid and CPR-C/AED certification.
- Additional training and certificates in child development or behaviour management is an asset.
- Successful completion of an RCMP Criminal Record with Vulnerable Sector Check.
