**About the Position**
**Job Type**:Part-Time, Hourly (Mon-Fri shifts, 1:30pm-6:00pm)
**Start Date**: Early October
**Specific responsibilities**:
- Program Development & Child Engagement- Plan and implement a variety of fun and educational activities that support social, physical, intellectual, creative, and emotional development.
- Actively engage with and supervise children, ensuring their safety, well-being, and positive experiences.
- Observe children’s interests and developmental needs to tailor programming accordingly.
- Foster a positive, inclusive atmosphere that promotes respect, cooperation, and friendship among children.
- Guiding Challenging Behaviours- Use positive behaviour guidance strategies to support children in developing social-emotional skills and conflict resolution abilities.
- Address behavioural challenges in a calm, patient, and supportive manner, ensuring that all children feel safe and respected.
- Implement developmentally appropriate interventions to manage conflicts and encourage self-regulation.
- Work closely with parents, guardians, and staff to create individualized strategies for children requiring additional support.
- Maintain documentation of significant behavioural incidents and communicate effectively with caregivers when necessary.
- Health, Safety, & Compliance- Ensure compliance with Alberta’s Early Childhood and Child Care Regulations and health & safety standards.
- Maintain a secure, clean, and organized environment that meets licensing requirements.
- Maintain accurate records, including attendance, incident reports, and program evaluations.
- Team & Community Collaboration- Work collaboratively with parents, staff, and the community to enhance program effectiveness and address individual child needs.
- Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities.
- Contribute to the overall improvement and success of the program through innovative ideas and team input.
- Other Duties- Adapt to changing program needs, assisting with related tasks as requested by the Recreation Programs Supervisor.
- Take on additional responsibilities as necessary to enhance the experience of children in the program.
- OSC Leaders may also support SLSC Day Camps (throughout the school year) and Summer Camps (in the summer).
**Qualifications**:
- Must be 16+ years old.
- ** Must hold (a minimum of) Early Childhood Educator Level 1 certification** (as per Alberta regulations). This includes:
- A minimum of 120 hours of approved early childhood education training.
- Experience working with school-age children (ages 6-12).
- Knowledge and understanding of developmentally appropriate practices and child care standards in Alberta.
- High School Diploma (or working towards); Child & Youth Care Diploma or related post-secondary field is preferred.
- Previous experience working with children in a childcare, summer camp, or educational setting is an asset.
- Current Intermediate First Aid and CPR-C/AED certification.
- Additional training and certificates in child development or behaviour management is an asset.
- Successful completion of an RCMP Criminal Record with Vulnerable Sector Check.
