The Smoky Lake Foundation is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing affordable housing and designated supportive living services for seniors and individuals in the communities throughout Smoky Lake County.
**Bar-V-Nook Manor and Supportive Living**, located in the vibrant community of Smoky Lake 116 km northeast of Edmonton, is seeking a **full-time Recreation Coordinator**. **About the Recreation Coordinator Role**
Reporting to the **Community Manager**, the Recreation Coordinator is responsible for developing, planning, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating recreational programming and special events that support resident quality of life and wellbeing.
**Job Duties**
- Develop, implement, coordinate, and schedule all recreation programs and events to meet the individual and group needs of residents;
- Ensure recreation programs and events align with the five Domains of Wellness;
- Involve residents in the planning of activities and events. Encourage residents to volunteer their unique skills to enhance recreation participation;
- Develop and maintain appropriate communication methods for programs, services, and events, including the recreation calendar, site newsletter, bulletins, and meetings designed to provide residents with information related to programs and special events;
- Encourage and motivate residents/tenants to participate in recreational activities;
- Observe and report any resident cognitive or physical changes to the Community Manager or designate;
- Coordinate and supervise the Volunteer Program, including recruiting, interviewing, screening, training, monitoring, directing, supporting, evaluating, and maintaining a personnel file containing appropriate documentation for each of the volunteers;
- Actively participate in the Recreation Coordinator Working Group meetings by sharing ideas, implementing new strategies, providing meaningful feedback encouraging consistent programming and collaboration throughout the organization;
- Consult and coordinate events and activities with other departments to ensure enough resources to meet the needs of the scheduled events. Resources may include food service, setting up or the provision of equipment and furniture, or additional staff;
- Contact vendors, music services, churches, community groups, etc. to volunteer and/or assist in specific program activities;
- Establish networks and collaborative partnerships with community groups, agencies and educational institutions to augment recreation programs and to promote Smoky Lake Foundation within the community; and
- Monitor, evaluate, and adjust programming to ensure participation and satisfaction.
**Education, Skills and Knowledge**
- A post-secondary certificate in recreation or related field; or
- Three to five years of related experience in event coordination, community programming, or volunteer coordination;
- Strong English communication skills are required; both written and verbal;
- Attention to detail, ability to multi-task and adapt to competing priorities;
- Proficient working knowledge of Office 365, including Publisher and PowerPoint;
- First Aid and CPR certification is required or must be attained within three months of hire;
- A Vulnerable Sector - Criminal Record Check; and
- Ability to work an occasional evening or Saturday for special events or programs.
**Benefits**

- Full-time (37.50 hours per week), Monday to Friday;
