Overview

Reporting directly to Accounting Manager and indirectly to the Vice President of Finance, the Accounting Assistant will support all Starlight Canadian Residential portfolios and will be responsible for the assembly, analysis and reporting of relevant financial data, with a focus on evaluating and optimizing related financial processes and controls. The Accounting Assistant is a key business partner, providing direct data administration support for all Finance portfolio teams.

**Responsibilities**:

- Detailed review of monthly property level reporting packages provided by property managers. Ensuring reporting packages are fully supportable and accurate
- Work with the property managers to understand their records and ensure the completeness and accuracy of their work
- Detailed preparation of consolidated account reconciliations for balance sheet and income statement accounts
- Maintain General Ledger including posting journal entries, analyzing general ledgers, and making adjustments where needed
- Develop a strong working relationship with SCMF portfolio teams
- Review of property managers monthly cash calls
- Prepare documents required for monthly debt draws
- Allocate and reconcile monthly or quarterly entity wide invoices
- Assist with pre-acquisition or pre-disposition activities
- Assist with ad0hoc data assembly, analysis and reporting, as required
- Assist with various other ad-hoc projects for the Vice President of Finance as they arise
- Timely & accurate Property Management financial reporting monthly/quarterly/annually (Shared Services review/feedback/approval)
- Identify/implement/track work absorbed from portfolio Finance teams
- Communicate effectively internally (with portfolio Finance teams, AM and Investments, where applicable) and externally (proactively with PMs)

**Requirements**:

- Accreditations/experience that demonstrate a sound understanding of Finance/Accounting
- A minimum 1 - 2 years of relevant Finance/Accounting experience
- Strong attention to detail and ability to analyze large amounts of data
- Strong communication skills - both written and verbal required
- Self-motivated and resourceful
- Proactive and self-directed with demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Dependable and willing to meet deadlines and work overtime as required
- Experience working with ERP systems (Yardi an asset)
- Excel - high level of proficiency
- Able to deal with confidential information and demonstrate reliability and dependability
- Task orientated, able to work well under pressure, willing to work overtime when needed
- Good written and verbal communication skills
