**1. General**

Reporting to and working in close collaboration with the Chief Executive Officer, the **Museum Advisor on Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation **(MAIRR) will play a critical role in building upon and advancing Indigenous reconciliation efforts within the Manitoba Museum, fostering positive and sustaining relationships with First Nations, Inuit, and Métis communities.

The Museum Advisor on Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation is responsible for leading, developing, and implementing strategies to promote Indigenous relations and reconciliation within the Museum. This role requires a deep understanding of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis cultures, histories, and contemporary issues, as well as a commitment to fostering meaningful relationships with First Nations, Inuit, and Métis communities.

As an advisor to the Museum’s senior leadership team, the MAIRR will oversee the development and implementation of a holistic, museum-wide framework that furthers Decolonization, Indigenization, Reconciliation, and Repatriation. Working with the Indigenous Advisory Circle of the Board of Governors (IAC), and the Internal Indigenous Advisory Committee (IIAC), the MAIRR will advise upon and guide the Manitoba Museum in its work to advance Truth and Reconciliation and the meaningful implementation of relevant UNDRIP articles.

**2. Key Accountabilities**

A. **Advance Relations and Reconciliation with First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Communities**
- Working closely with the CEO and senior leadership, serve as a liaison between the Museum and First Nations, Inuit, and Métis communities, governments, and organizations.
- Collaborate, advise and assist Museum staff responsible for developing and executing Indigenous community outreach and engagement.
- Responsible for ensuring an evaluation plan regarding the impact of Reconciliation initiatives, and recommending adjustments as needed to ensure effectiveness and relevance.
- Direct, implement and report on the Museum’s efforts in delivering on its Strategic Priority: _Advance Decolonization, Reconciliation, And Repatriation In All Facets Of The Museum’s Work._
- Collaborate with CEO and IIAC members to develop and implement a comprehensive Indigenous reconciliation strategy and framework that aligns with organizational goals and values, the goals of Canada’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action (TRC) and the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP), and the Canadian Museums Association’s _Moved to Action: Activating UNDRIP in Canadian Museums_ Report.
- Together with the CEO, senior leadership, and/or Museum staff, represent the Museum to the community, supporters, and the general public as it relates to the Museum’s efforts related to Reconciliation.
- Collaborate with the Director of RCE to help Inform and guide culturally sensitive repatriation/rematriation activities, fostering trust and mutual respect, maintaining and sustaining positive and strong relationships.
- Attend community events within First Nations, Inuit, and Métis communities with or in place of the CEO, senior leadership, and/or Curators.
- Collaborate and support the IAC Chair and IIAC Chair with related activities such as meeting organizations, moving forward nominations for new Advisors from First Nations, Inuit, and Métis communities, organizations, and leaders etc.
- Provide guidance and support to internal Museum departments on incorporating Indigenous perspectives and practices in operational policies, procedures, and activities.
- Actively seek out opportunities to involve communities in the Museum’s work; acting as an ambassador for community relations.

B. **Support the Homeward Journey Project**
- Collaborate with the CEO, Internal Indigenous Advisory Committee (IIAC) and Indigenous Advisory Circle (IAC), Indigenous communities, organizations, and leaders to build an Elders Council and community partnerships.
- Support the Homeward Journey Project through internal guidance, community relations, liaising, etc.
- Collaborate with the Director of Research, Collections and Exhibition (RCE) and Curator of Archaeology to assist with managing and engaging with key community relationships related to repatriation and rematriation for the Project.
- Serve as primary contact for the Elders Council.
- Participate in Homeward Journey Committee meetings and related events.
- Develop and contribute to relevant policies and procedures.

C. **Perform other duties as assigned**
- Coordinate community meetings.
- Draft and contribute to relevant institutional policies, procedures, and/or protocols.
- Prepare reports and related information for the Museum.
- Facilitate cultural competency training and awareness sessions for staff and volunteers.
- Attend IAC meetings.
- Attend and participate in IIAC meetings, and other meetings are required.
- Other duties as requested by the CEO.
