**Construction Safety Officer**

In the role of the site Construction Safety Officer, you will support the Superintendent and Project team on the implementation, oversight, and promotion of safety awareness. This position requires an individual who has strong leadership skills and will support efforts to minimize workplace injuries and ensure compliance on site.

**TYPICAL DUTIES**:

- Conduct project orientations, ensuring that new workers to the site have been instructed on company safety standards, procedures, and responsibilities.
- Conduct daily safety audits and inspections to identify hazards and ensure compliance with local, provincial, and federal safety regulations.
- Participate and/or lead crew and contractor toolbox talk and safety meetings and provide support for the superintendent in trades meetings with the purpose of providing technical reports for discussion.
- Assist in developing custom site safety plans by conducting ongoing project hazard assessments. Ensure that JHA are developed and participate in the development and auditing of daily Field Level Hazard Assessment (FLHA’s) with both employees and contractors.
- Actively engage in emergency response efforts, offering specialist guidance to the project team. Provide the appropriate level of first aid to injured workers and ensure that the corresponding documentation and follow-up is completed. Lead emergency response planning and drills.
- Conduct incident and accident investigations in conjunction with the site project team and provide recommendations for corrective actions. Maintain records of safety-related incidents and actions taken.
- Ensure all administrative aspects of site safety are addressed. This includes collection of trade safety information, site signage, maintaining up to date information on safety boards, and ensuring all documentation is stored appropriately.
- The ability to communicate confidently and effectively to all levels of responsibility within an organization is a must. Communication and coordination with the superintendents and project team is key to project success.
- Ensure that all coordination” activities are completed in a timely manner on site. This will include ensuring that appropriate safety controls are in place during non-routine work hours (e.g. weekend work).
- Promote maintenance of site cleanliness and safety items through ongoing housekeeping each day.
- Stay up to date with industry best practices and emerging safety technologies.
- Assess and procure safety equipment and supplies.
- Identify and verify training requirements for site specific tasks. Deliver or procure training and awareness where required.

**SKILLS & ABILITIES**:

- Knowledge and understanding of WorkSafe BC regulations.
- Minimum Level 3 Occupational First Aid Ticket, with CSO or NCSO certification a requirement.
- OHS Certificate or willingness to achieve is an asset.
- Equipment, carpentry & machinery certifications an asset.
- Strong organizational and people skills, ability to prioritize tasks.
- Ability and confidence to instill core safety values internally and to trade contractors.
- Ability to work efficiently with mínimal direction while leading by example.

**Report to: HSE Manager**

**Hourly range: $30-$38 (depending on experience)**

**Salary**: From $27.00 per hour

Expected hours: No less than 40 per week
