The British Columbia Centre on Substance Use (BCCSU) is the provincial resource for evidence-based information and treatment guidance in the field of addiction. The BCCSU plays an advocacy role for positive and public policy change, reducing stigma, and supporting patients and their families.

The BCCSU is committed to conducting and translating leading-edge research into improved addiction care across BC. The BCCSU develops training curricula, program standards, and practice guidelines for delivery throughout BC. The BCCSU builds collaborative networks across regional health authorities, researchers, educators, and care providers, and other allied care professionals across the province to ensure that research and innovation efficiently reach the people they are intended to serve. The administrative core of BCCSU is accountable for enabling the research, translation and practice of the organization through timely, innovative and sound management services.

**Qualifications / Skills and Education**:
**Duties and Responsibilities**: Clinical Responsibilities

Carry out duties in accordance with an agreed schedule of rotations (may include some call shifts; no days in lieu are offered for weekend call days worked).

Work under the supervision of an attending Addiction Medicine Physician in the management of patients within the core rotations.

At all times provide care in a professional, respectful, trauma-informed manner.

Demonstrate commitment by regular punctual attendance, the efficient completion of allocated tasks and collaborative participation within the team setting.

Teaching

Participate in teaching as follows (see orientation guideline):
Present at the BCCSU Annual Conference (mandatory)

Attend all Addiction Medicine Journal Clubs (held monthly) and leads one journal club over the course of the fellowship

Attend all What's New in Addiction Medicine lectures (held monthly and as rotations allow) and present once over the course of the fellowship

Participate in resident and medical student teaching during AMCT rotation.

Teach during the weekly fellow teaching sessions on the Addiction Medicine Consult Team at St. Paul's Hospital.

Research

Actively seek out opportunities to conduct and publish peer-reviewed research including case reports and/or funding proposals.

Maintain strict confidentiality related to participant identification and release of research data.

Conduct a research/scholary project, which will culminate in a presentation at the annual BCCSU conference.

Education

Attend the academic block and other mandatory learning seminars throughout the year.

Strongly encouraged to attend or present at addiction related conferences during the course of the fellowship.

Attend monthly peer study groups.

Attend staff lunch teaching at St. Paul's Hospital (whilst onsite).
