Under the supervision of Senior OHS Advisor, the incumbent supports the progression of the OHS culture of UAP and its Napa, Traction, Altrom divisions, in store operations and distribution centres, across Canada.
The main component will be the management of activities related to the prevention of critical risks in the workplace. In particular in the development of relevant procedures and documents, in the OHS training component and in the implementation of specific projects.
- The person will be responsible for the implementation of prevention activities related to Bill 59 in Quebec.
- He/She will play an advisory role when a work incident occurs in order to help identify causes and corrective measures.
- He/She will have to carry out risk analyzes and inspections in the workplace
Teamwork and an advisory role will be essential with stakeholders, in particular with store and DC operations managers, members of the HR team and members of asset management team.
**More specifically**:
Prevention program and OHS procedures - Collaborate, create and implement documents for the management of activities to prevent critical risks in stores and DCs, in particular: in connection with inspections in the workplace, safety and inspection of racking units, safe operation of rolling stock and delivery vehicles, incident investigation and analysis, emergency measures plan, safe handling of loads, etc.
Incidents at work - Support managers in reviewing incident investigations and analysis, to identify relevant root causes and effective corrective measures.
OHS welcome for new employees and managers - Create and ensure the use of an effective welcome process on the prevention of the main risks.
Visits to stores and DC's - Conduct site visits, perform workplace inspections and make recommendations to managers and regional operations manager.
OHS training - Review annually the courses offered to employees and managers according to the different positions, ensure their relevance in relation to critical risks, propose changes or new training.
Health and Safety Committee - Support managers in meetings at their establishment (meeting structure, discussion topics, follow-up on files, implementation of corrective measures, participation in meetings)
OHS legislation - Monitoring in the different provinces, judging the impact on operations, adjusting procedures in place, preparing relevant communications, supporting managers for effective implementation in order to ensure compliance.
WHMIS (is this right translation of SIMDUT?) - Participate in committee activities for upgrading of the various files, in particular training, access to safety data sheets, storage in volatile rooms, improvement of emergency measures in the event of a spill, etc.
**Qualifications**
University degree in human resources or a related discipline, or a certificate in occupational health and safety with a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in occupational health and safety, ideally in prevention.
Considering the nature of the position, which is to cover Canada and support the different provinces, bilingualism (English and French), both written and spoken, is required as well as having a good knowledge of provincial health and safety legislation.
In addition, skills in continuous improvement, project management, analytical capacity, organization and planning are necessary.
