**ABOUT THE ROLE**

TransAlta is seeking an organized and detail focused individual to join our North American Supply Chain - Accounts Payable team in the full-time, permanent role of Accounts Payable Team Lead. This role is based in Calgary, Alberta reporting to the Supervisor, Accounts Payable and SCM Processes. The Team Lead will be responsible for overseeing the Accounts Payable team throughout the full-cycle accounts payable process.

This is a full-time salaried position, based out of our Head Office in Downtown Calgary. This role offers the flexibility of a hybrid work schedule.

**WHAT YOU WILL DO**

The role is accountable for providing day to day guidance and support to the Accounts Payable (“AP”) team which includes, but is not limited to, the following:

- Serving as main contact for technical and financial issues with wires, cheques and free-form wire payments.
- Maintaining systems, procedures, and policies to ensure adherence to company guidelines, processes, and SOX controls.
- Aiding in the development of procedural revisions to improve process efficiencies.
- Tracking and measurement of established team KPIs.
- Providing back-up support for invoicing and payment related work for the AP team using SAP and other support systems.
- Daily matching and posting a large volume of vendor invoices.
- Ensuring discounts and timely payments of vendor invoices are completed.
- Researching, resolving, and communicating discrepancies of outstanding balances on vendor accounts.
- Reconciling various monthly statements, journal entries and activity in Blackline Accounting software.
- Testing, documenting and providing feedback on major system upgrades and implementations.
- Managing monthly closing of AP records.

**WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU**

To be successful in this role, we are looking for the following must-have qualifications and experience:

- Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, or similar business-related field is preferred
- 7-10 years of related accounts payable or general accounting experience is required
- Excellent working knowledge of accounts payable procedures and processes is required
- Must possess the ability to place a high emphasis on maintaining necessary controls surrounding financial reporting
- Capability to exchange ideas and information effectively using tact and diplomacy when dealing with others
- Ability to exercise good judgment and make decisions in a logical and rational manner
- Work on a variety of tasks, each with sensitive timelines
- Able to adapt to changing processes and policies while working in a fast-paced, complex environment
- Creativeness in generating new approaches to problems
- Motivated by a challenging work environment and executes work with an exceptional degree of integrity

**Nice to Haves**

The following qualifications and/or experience are desirable, but not essential:

- Experience in SAP and OCR is considered an asset
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio, and Teams
- Ability to work independently on tasks and within a team setting
- Strong organizational, analytical, and account reconciliation skills
