**Job Summary**:
The Director, Professional Practice and Education provides national leadership to the organization around practice (regulated and unregulated) and education including program development. The Director leads evaluation of clinical practice in relation to professional and unregulated practice standards and maintains continuing competency to review, develop and implement Practice policies for Care and Service provision. **Key Responsibilities**:
- Provides organizational leadership on regulated/unregulated practice, and education and leads the national practice educator and practice consultant team to support safe and effective care and service delivery through policy and program development/evaluation.
- Provides leadership around care and service delivery and regulated/unregulated education including policy and program development and evaluation.
- Liaises with departmental representatives in other corporate services and operational departments.
- Evaluates clinical practices in relation to professional and unregulated provider practice standards, relevant statues and regulations, and maintaining continuing professional competence.
- Collaborates with others in the practice of health professional development at the institutional, local and regional levels.
- Identifies strategies for improving professional development activities, staff/provider practices and patient outcomes.
- Manages the implementation of practice change across the organization.
- Considers factors related to safety, effectiveness and cost in planning, delivering, and managing staff/provider professional development activities.
- Consults with internal and external resources to ensure currency and relevancy of practice and educational material.
**External and Internal Relationships**
- Works with internal working groups (communities of practice), professional practice council (Care and Service Council), corporate services including human resources and organizational development.
- Engages with professional practice working groups, academic agency task groups, professional practice associations and other external professional and home care related associations.
**Common Leadership Responsibilities**
- Promotes the strategy of VON and their role as an integrated community care provider to all stakeholders and staff.
- Prioritizes and ensures alignment of emerging opportunities in the community with VON strategic plan.
- Provides leadership in navigating the requirements and complexities of unionized and non-unionized environments.
- Coaches, advises, motivates, and provides leadership to staff; creates a positive workplace for staff.
- Promotes the Lean team management approach to ensure a common paradigm of management and discipline of management practices.
- Ensures there are mechanisms for all staff to come together to hear of organizational news and to provide feedback on what is working and what is not working.
- Ensures all Districts have a plan to complete performance development and learning plans with all staff.
- Promotes common approaches to orientation, learning, motivating, recognizing and supporting staff when achieving organizational goals; such as meeting or exceeding KPIs, meeting or exceeding milestones.
- Provides leadership and commitment to building client and family engagement and following accreditation Canada Standards.
- Provides leadership in the promotion of a safe and healthy workplace ensuring workplace conduct and activities are in accordance with the provincial Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations, that KPIs related to safety are regularly reviewed by management, that appropriate investigations occur when needed, and plans to address issues are created and acted upon.
- Promotes the use of technology-based systems for the capture, transformation and distribution of knowledge.
- Abides by all confidentiality and protection of personal information policies, regulations and practices and ensures appropriate safeguards are in place in the Region.
**Education, Designations and Experience**:
- Post-secondary degree in Nursing required. Master’s degree preferred.
- Current registration with provincial nursing regulatory body required.
- Minimum ten (10) years of relevant experience including 3 years’ experience in leadership role.
- Knowledge of Project management.
- Experience working in the health and/or community support services sector an asset.
