Qualifications:

- Cultural competency in working with Two-Spirit and LGBTQIA2S+ youth.
- Prior experience in youth programs or community education.
- Experience in youth programming and community engagement.
- Experience in mentoring and support roles.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Effective presentation and facilitation skills.
- ASIST certification or willingness to obtain certification.
- Criminal record check
- Valid class 5 Drivers license and reliable vehicle

Job Title: Two Spirit Program Helper

Program Description:
The Two Spirit Program aims to promote the overall wellbeing of youth, encompassing their social, emotional, mental, and spiritual dimensions while actively contributing to suicide prevention efforts. This program fosters community involvement and participation, creating a strong sense of support, kinship, and visibility. Through volunteering as community educators and peer supporters, participants undergo training and mentorship, enhancing transferable skills and deepening their cultural knowledge and connections. The program, guided by experienced educators and knowledge keepers, focuses on creating safe spaces for sharing knowledge, experiences, and cultural teachings.

Two Spirit Helper Responsibilities:

- Peer Support:

- Lead and facilitate youth peer-support mentorship training.
- Provide support in both individual and group settings, guided by teachings of the medicine wheel, cultural knowledge, and relationship building.
- Implement suicide prevention and mental health support best practices, including de-escalation and trauma-informed communication.
- Mentor and support peers on their journey of self-discovery and determination.
- Community Education:

- Engage in public advocacy, awareness, and education efforts.
- Co-facilitate and deliver presentations and programming to the community, alongside society staff.
- Develop a valuable skill set in presentation and facilitation.
- Empower youth to take a strength-based approach in sharing insights on the Two Spirit identity and experiences.
- Community Involvement:

- Collaborate with schools to create and implement youth programming.
- Incorporate peer supporters and community educators into school collaboration.
- Align programming with curriculum elements, dual and co-curricular credit programs, and work experience opportunities.
- Understand curriculum and school systems for meaningful and effective engagement.
- Mentorship and Empowerment:

- Explore opportunities for mentorship between different age demographics.
- Empower community educators to lean into their passions and voices, strengthening the program's impact.
- Program Development:

- Expand the program to include all Indigenous youth in partnership with schools and organizations (e.g., BGC, McMan, and RDNFS).
- Enhance community education efforts for reconciliation and allyship.
- Develop a team of community educators capable of offering educational opportunities and professional development.
- Incentivize volunteering by offering free training in exchange for volunteer hours.

Qualifications:

- A strong understanding of youth programming and community engagement.
- Knowledge of Indigenous culture, teachings, and Two Spirit identity.
- Experience in mentoring and support roles.
