Tenant Support Worker

**Job Overview**:
The purpose of the Support Worker is to provide 1:1 support to tenants for the purposes of supporting successful tenancies with MQHS. This is accomplished through establishing a healthy building culture to encourage and maintain a safe and welcoming environment where tenants are supported to flourish. The TSW facilitates successful tenancies, assisting existing and prospective tenants on the road to self-sufficiency.
**Responsibilities**:
- Develops and implements promotional and educational material and programming in support of successful tenancies.
- Deescalates conflicts and problem solve incidents involving tenants.
- Develops strong relationship with tenants, providing great customer service and promoting positive tenant community.
- Develops relationships in the community, representing MQHS with local service providers in order to properly refer and problem solve tenant situations.
- Plans events and celebrations on behalf of the Society.
- Seeks alternate forms of funding and pursues grants in collaboration with the CEO.
- Attends and participates in regular departmental and organizational meetings.
- Demonstrates behaviour that is consistent with respectful workplace policy and encourages positive team culture.
- Monitors and evaluates tenant wellness when situations are escalated.
- Maintains strong boundaries and tenant confidentiality.
- Develops an exit plan to support tenants in the eviction process.
- Assist tenants in their units as needed to de-clutter, clean and prepare for pest control
- Follow established practices of harm reduction strategies
**Qualifications**:
- Completion of a diploma or certification program in community social service, community mental health, or other relevant discipline
- Considerable experience in direct supportive counselling with diverse populations that face multiple barriers to successful housing OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience acceptable to the employer
- Ability to respond to problematic behaviour and to develop effective solutions
- Experience working in supportive housing would be an asset
- Ability to travel within region (drivers license and car)
- Proven programming facilitation experience
- Grant writing knowledge and experience
- Knowledge of the Residential Tenancy Act
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and time management skills
**Work Week**
- Monday - Friday - 35 hours per week
- Alternate Flex Friday’s
- This position requires some flexibility regarding hours, as some work may occur after normal working hours. Time accrued after business hours will be paid out via “time-off in lieu”.
