Central Program Coordinator

Reporting to the Manager, Equity & Inclusion, the Central Program Coordinator - Mentoring Initiative will work in partnership with the Temetry Faculty of Medicine and community partners on enhancing support to Indigenous students in postsecondary education and medical school pathways.
The Central Program Coordinator for this initiative will play a pivotal role in coordinating all aspects of the initiative, ensuring seamless collaboration among partner organizations, stakeholders, and participants. The role requires a dynamic and organized individual who can support the successful implementation of the initiative’s activities and contribute to its overall success.
This position is covered by the Terms and Conditions of the OPSEU Unit 677 Collective Agreement (Unit 2). A copy is available on the NOSM University website.
**Responsibilities**:
Tasks include but are not limited to the following:
- Under the direction of the Manager, work with key stakeholders to establish, plan, coordinate and implement a program which meets the needs and interests of program participants.
- Advise and refer Indigenous learners to program activities and events led by partner institutions. Ensure that their perspectives are integrated into the planning and execution of initiative activities. Establish mechanisms for ongoing student recruitment, engagement and participation.
- Facilitate effective communication among project partners, stakeholders, and participants. Organize regular meetings, workshops, and events to foster collaboration and information exchange. Serve as the central point of contact for all communication related to the initiative, escalating issues to the Manager, as required.
- Foster strong relationships with partnering organizations, Indigenous communities, and other stakeholders to ensure a cohesive and cooperative approach to achieving project goals.
- Assist with monitoring the Mentorship Initiative budget and prepare budget reports, as required. Work with Finance to process payments.
- Oversee the collection, management, and analysis of relevant data from participating organizations. Ensure the creation and maintenance of a comprehensive database for monitoring and evaluation purposes.
- Working with the Manager, establish program review and tracking protocols to ensure programs continually operates as intended, meets expectations, ensures effective practices and standards, and delivers value.
- Compile logístical and program evaluation data and draft correspondence, presentations and/or reports to various internal and external partners and/or funding agencies highlighting achievements and areas for improvement.
- Working with the Communications Unit on the creation of bulletins and advertisements for upcoming programming and events.
- Performs all other duties as assigned
**Qualifications**:
**Education**:
- A university degree in a relevant discipline from a recognized university with Canadian accreditation or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
**Knowledge, Skills and Abilities**:
- Minimum of three (3) years of related experience is required
- Must have Indigenous lived experience, as well as demonstrated experience working with Indigenous peoples, cultures and communities
- Demonstrated experience with community development and relationship building
- Proven experience in project coordination, preferably in initiatives related to Indigenous education and support.
- Knowledge of Indigenous cultures and traditions, including cultural protocols and processes, issues within Indigenous communities.
- Knowledge of Indigenous organizations and university community, cultural diversity of Northern Ontario, medical resources in rural and remote communities and rural and remote community living experiences.
- Understanding of socio-economic conditions of the Indigenous communities of Northern Ontario.
- Proven experience in coordinating various tasks under tight deadlines.
- The ability to communicate effectively and to express oneself clearly verbally, and in writing, and uses a variety of media through formal presentations.
- Strong organizational, relationship-building, and multitasking skills, with attention to detail.
- Experience working with youth-serving programs is an asset.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience working with other software programs with formatting/utility capabilities of word processing (i.e., Microsoft Excel, Word) and with NOSM’s custom programs.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a diverse team.
- Ability to work within established organizational practices, protocols, and policies.
**Language**:
- Must be able to communicate effectively in English (verbally, written and comprehension)
- French/Indigenous language skills would be considered asset
