Established in 2016, Shelter Movers is the only service of its kind in Canada. We are growing and seeking caring and compassionate people to lead and inspire our Volunteer Services team serving survivors in Greater Toronto.

Position Summary

The Manager, Volunteer Services leads a team of volunteers to develop and execute the Volunteer Services strategy in Greater Toronto. The Manager works collaboratively with the National Volunteer Services Director and Greater Toronto Chapter Director to realize Shelter Movers’ mission, supporting survivors of abuse.

Primary Responsibilities
- Support the Chapter Director and National Volunteer Services Director in executive Shelter Movers’ strategic plan, particularly as it relates to Volunteer Services
- Select, train and manage a team of volunteers and employees
- Ground recommendations and decision in evidence, using key performance indicators to understand volunteer behaviour
- Create and provide reports and analysis where necessary to demonstrate the effectiveness of current policies and procedures
- Identify, develop and test process and policy improvements to enhance volunteers’ experience at Shelter Movers Greater Toronto
- Actively contribute to national Volunteer Services team meetings and with ideas and feedback on national initiatives and procedural changes
- Manage ongoing and temporary projects (e.g., student placement programs) as needed
- Update and refine volunteer orientation presentation and facilitate when needed
- Assist other chapter-level functions when necessary

Skills, Experience and Education

- Demonstrated success in a management / leadership role, ideally in the nonprofit sector
- Strong analytical, problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple projects under tight timelines
- Advanced interpersonal skills in a professional, outgoing manner
- Collaborative leadership style to build trust and inspire others to achieve common goals
- Experience managing large teams (over 20 staff) of paid and unpaid staff
- Budget development experience, ability to understand a financial statement
- Advanced verbal and written communication and negotiation skills
- University level verbal French - English is an asset
- Acts ethically and strives for integrity and excellence in all areas of responsibility
- Advanced understanding and interest in gender studies, including anti-racist, anti-oppressive frameworks and intersectionality of challenges faced by women and particularly survivors of abuse in the local community

Other Requirements

Estimated Time Requirements
- 21 hours per week, including daytime and some evening meetings
- 12 month renewable contract position (3 month probationary period)
- Periodic travel within the Greater Toronto Area expected
- Payscale: $50,000 - $65,000 (to be prorated) and health benefits available
