The Manager, Volunteer Services provides leadership and strategic direction to the department. This includes directly managing and providing leadership to both the staff within the Volunteer Services departments across all three sites, as well as all active volunteers throughout Unity Health.

**Activities**:

- Develop and implement goals and objectives for the volunteer program, which reflect the mission of the organization.
- Provide leadership for the volunteer program;
- Provide rotating site leadership and oversight for staffing and volunteer and student programs
- Conduct ongoing evaluation of the programs and services and implement quality improvements as necessary
- Oversight of co-op student program at the SJHC site in collaboration with various public and Catholic school boards
- Develop, administer and review the policies and procedures which guide the volunteer program
- Identify volunteer assignments and develop volunteer position descriptions in consultation and partnership with internal partners
- Create, monitor and present on program metrics and departmental activities through formal reports
- Promote volunteer program to internal partners and to the organizations at large
- Assist with conflict resolution involving staff and volunteers
- Plan and implement formal and informal volunteer recognition
- Prepare and update public relations materials for the program (incl. departmental website)
- Lead selected corporate projects or events
- Development of annual operational plan that is in alignment with organizational strategic plan through;
- Development of external partnerships to foster opportunities for underserviced volunteers in surrounding communities;
- Maintain best practices through constant research and evidence on emerging trends in volunteer programming;
- Development and fostering of SMART metrics and performance outcomes using a well-established quality improvement framework and mindset;
- Maintains responsibility for developing and executing human resources strategies for attracting, hiring, managing, developing and motivating staff and volunteers;
- Provides direction/leadership for the team as a coach and mentor; defines accountabilities while directing and supporting the achievement of performance goals, within functional area of responsibility;
- Conducts performance reviews, of direct reports on an annual basis and/or as required to ensure excellent in the provision of work activities; takes appropriate corrective action, where appropriate, up to and including termination, as required to meet identified departmental needs;
- Maintains full responsibility for planning, monitoring, managing and allocating departmental budget to meet departmental goals;
- Managing resources in a manner that will optimally impact financial result;
- Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum three (3) years experience in a leadership position, experience with volunteers preferred
- Completion of a recognized Bachelors Degree Program in Business Administration, Human Resources, or other related discipline
- Familiarity with a Not-for-Profit environment preferred
- Experience working in a Health Care environment preferred
- Completion of a recognized Volunteer Management program preferred
- Membership and/or certification with PAVRO preferred
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Excellent administrative and human resources skills
- Knowledge and understanding of budgeting procedures
- Ability to work in a fast pace, high pressure environment
- Ability to work in a self directed manner
- Ability to be creative, proactive and visionary
- Ability to provide effective leadership expertise in change management process.
