**JOB SUMMARY**:
Under the direction of the Department Manager and Childcare Consultant the Childcare Support Worker will:
Implement the individual education plans within a childcare setting for children with additional needs.
**QUALIFICATIONS**:
The Childcare Support Worker will have:
- Early Childhood Education Diploma or 2 years’ experience working with special needs children in a supervised setting or combination of Early Childhood Education courses and experience
- First Aid ticket
- An equivalent Combination of education and/or experience.
**SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE**:
The Childcare Support Worker will be:
- Self-directed
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Good written and verbal communication
- Commitment to the philosophies of integration and inclusion
Ability to work within a variety of teams and a variety of children
**PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES**:
The Childcare Support Worker must demonstrate:

**RESPONSIBILITIES**:
The Childcare Support Worker will:
- Adhere to licensing requirements, provincial standards and all legislation related to children and families.
- Assist with some administrative duties as required by the Department Manager or Child Care Consultant.
- Submits progress reports monthly at the beginning of each month.
- Assist individual children within the childcare setting respecting the child’s needs to achieve independence whenever possible.
- Assist in creating individualized plans in consultation with the Child Care Consultant and other pertinent individuals.
- Implements strategies that meet the individual child’s plan.
- Attend to the child’s physical needs. Needs may include diapering, toileting, eating, sleeping, ambulatory aid assistance, physical positioning.
- Utilize teaching techniques, which include modeling, observing, questioning, demonstrating and reinforcing.
- Ensures that the child is involved with all aspects of the child care setting while maintaining the safety of the child at all times.
- Maintain current progress reports for each child, including attendance, observations of child’s involvement in activities, behaviours, recommendations, etc.
- Maintain open communication with parents and other professionals in a confidential manner as required and approved by parents.
- Confer with parents regarding unusual or problematic issues in a manner, which maintains the confidentiality of other children, daycare staff and co-workers.
- Acts as an ambassador to the Supported Child Development goal of integrations.
- Works as a team member within the childcare setting ensuring consistency of interventions and cooperative approach in all interactions.
- Act as a model for the childcare provider giving them the opportunity to become comfortable with strategies for meeting the individual child’s needs.
- Attend work-related meetings including staff and team meetings.
