Overview:
The Coordinator for the Office of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is accountable to the Director of UW School of Optometry and Vision Science (UWOVS) and Chair of CPD for the ongoing management of continuing professional development and continuing education programming at the UWOVS. This responsibility, in consultation with the Director, the Chair CPD, and working closely with the Associate Director, Advancement, includes program planning, development, implementation and evaluation of live, virtual, and hybrid continuing professional development events; marketing and promotion strategies; and budget management in a cost-recovery context.
The position will be responsible for managing the Office of CPD that will:
- Design, implement and evaluate continuing professional development programs for optometrists, ophthalmic assistants, affiliated health care professionals, and members of the general public
- Deliver for-credit virtual education programming related to the Doctor of Optometry (OD) program for practicing optometrists
- Support the development of the curriculum for professional development for specialization in optometry in conjunction with the professional associations and regulatory colleges of optometry
- Support the Optometry 5in5 program delivery and continuous improvement
**This position is contingent on funding.**
**Responsibilities**:
Program Market Research
- Conduct regular market research and needs assessments
- Liaise with professional associations/advisory committees and regulatory bodies (e.g. Colleges of Optometry)
- Maintain directory of the boards of directors of the optometric associations and regulators in Canada
- Identify board meetings and prepare UWOVS updates in coordination with Communications Officer
- Support local optometry engagement e.g. UWaterloo and You
- Keep a calendar of dates of other CE events nationally and key events in the US to avoid scheduling conflicts and assist with planning
- Develop and maintain ongoing relationships with business, community and industry organizations in order to identify and assess their training needs
- Identify and develop novel and innovative continuing education delivery opportunities
- Conduct market analysis on other Schools and Colleges of Optometry in North America
- Review industry sponsorship standards nationally with other CE programs
Program Development/Implementation/Evaluation
- Run successful CPD events through effective collaboration, planning, and execution with timely attention to detail and superior customer service
- Support the Chair, CPD to develop/create courses and programs to meet the needs of the profession, alumni, allied health professionals, affiliated businesses and the community
- Support the chair, CPD in the design and initiation of curriculum for professional development with academic support from School administrators and faculty committees
- Research new technologies to improve and update program offerings
- Coordinate, plan and manage a schedule of all project tasks with appropriate deadlines and maintain up to date Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for CPD assets
- Collaborate with chair of CPD, Associate Director of Advancement, IST, School Administrators and faculty committees to run and host live and virtual programming with high attention to effective customer service
- Conduct continuous improvement plans (e.g. survey quality of project deliverables and recommend options for improvement)
- Ensure that for-credit courses meet UWaterloo and COPE accreditation standards
- Development and maintenance of partnership contracts where appropriate
Marketing, Promotion and Communication
- Identify and define target markets for each program
- In conjunction with the Communications Officer, prepare and coordinate promotional materials for programs; use of multimedia to develop advertisements, brochures and flyers
- Determine communication methods, channels, frequency, and level of detail for all stakeholders
- Communicate project information and updates effectively
- When appropriate, confirm communication is understood and feedback is received
- Maintain a user friendly and clear webpage for the UWOVS, Office of CPD with up to date offerings of upcoming programs and contact information
- Attend association meetings to support engagement with the profession, as needed (may require travel within Canada)
- Communicate regularly with key industry partners on upcoming programs and engagement opportunities
Financial Management in conjunction with the Finance Officer
- Review and support program area budget to meet targets/operating margins as established by the Director and Chair, CPD
- Establish product pricing, conduct break-even analyses overall and for individual programs with support from finance
- Work with the Associate Director of Advancement to develop sponsorship plans and set targets
- Establish individual course budgets
