**About Potash**:
In 2021, BHP approved a CA$7.5 billion investment in Jansen Stage 1 in Saskatchewan, Canada, which is aligned with their strategy of growing exposure to future facing commodities in world-class assets. The project is expected to produce 4.35 million tonnes of potash per year with initial production targeted for 2027, ramping up to full production over two years. Jansen potash project is located approximately 140 km southeast of Saskatoon. Potash opens a new front for growth and is an expandable resource that can support a century or more of operations. Potash provides BHP with greater diversification by commodity, country, and customer.
**Purpose**:
Reporting to the Manager Potash Operations Readiness, the Specialist Project Commercial & Procurement contributes to the preparation for and execution of the operational readiness strategy. The strategy relates to the purchasing, payments, and cataloging of goods and services for the Potash Operation.
**About the Role**:
- Works with stakeholders to collate business requirements for operational readiness as input to operational readiness strategy
- Manages contract execution and analysis to maximize operational and financial performance and mitigate exposure and risk
- Processes invoice and service entry sheet payments, reconciles goods received against invoices received, and resolves vendor queries to achieve timely and accurate payment processing
- Procurement to payment of materials and services of the right quality, in the right quantity, at the right place, from the right source and at the right time
- Obtains the Lowest Total Cost of Ownership for goods and services, value, and quality using market research, supplier evaluation, and fact-based negotiation to meet business objectives
- Applies an understanding of end-to-end Supply Chain to enhance efficiency, drive optimization, and maximize value
- Sources information, plans, and conducts analysis to support evidence-based decision making
- Gains support for and negotiates outcomes that achieve mutually beneficial goals
- Mitigates people, environmental and community risks across the value chain, in alignment with social value, sustainability, and public policy considerations
- Supports the management of vendor / customer selection, contracts, and performance to maximize operational and financial outcomes and mitigate BHP's exposure to risk
**Pivotal Experiences for the Role**:
- The Total Cost of Ownership for specific sub-category of spend requires leadership of commercial levers, identifying and coordinating operational implementation of technical levers, and ensuring the highest rigor in process lever
- Creation and management of strategic plans by subcategory, including strategic supplier management
- Directly engages with Operations' counterparts and Supply Managers
- Activity planning and impact review on contractual plans, category strategies, and budgets within specific sub-category
- Tactical sourcing planning and preparation for sub-category which includes launching best in class tenders, and conducting negotiations, etc.
- Developing new suppliers when appropriate, and facilitating contracting within the sub-category
**Skills, Accreditations and Qualifications**:
Required:
- Undergraduate degree in business, engineering or equivalent professional experience
- Experience in contract formation and management for Operations
- Procurement experience in services, corporate, and project environments
- 5-7+ years of relevant Operations and/or Supply Chain Management experience
- Understanding of workplace safety standards with good judgement for safety observations
- Fluent in Microsoft Office products, especially data analysis in Excel
Recommended:
- Experience leveraging new systems and technologies to deliver outcomes
- Category management in operations of similar complexity preferred (i.e., multi-country, multi-region and/or multi-operations)
- Ability to develop long term strategies and deliver continuous process improvement
- Ability to deliver high quality outcomes with mínimal instruction and oversight
- Capable of influencing others to deliver shared objectives in a professional environment
- Certificates in Supply Chain Management preferred
- Prior Operations Experience in a mining / fertilizer context
- SAP exposure
