JOB SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Environment Coordinator working within the Environment Department (ED)

the Field Technician is an on the land part-time (contract) position supporting CFN’s Land

Restoration and environment initiatives.

This position is based in Leamington, Ontario, and may involve manual work in all weather

conditions or, at times, in-office as needed. The Field Technician(s) are to conduct

environmental field work, research, and other Department support, working independently and

alongside CFN staff, as well as with outside CFN partners, attending events and representing the

ED.

While a seasonal contract position that typically stretches from May to October with variable

hours, the role is multi-year in its outlook and renewal of contract will depend on Department

capacity-building and funding. The Field Technician(s) must understand Caldwell First Nation’s

specific priorities and work to promote the Nation’s vision and values.

MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Assist in coordination and execution of environmental fieldwork;
- Assist in delivering Department environmental research, programming and training;
- Assist in conducting community engagements on various ED initiatives;
- Assist in conducting planting, watering, weeding and general care of our non-human

relatives present on Caldwell lands
- Trail development
- Assist in developing trail and interpretive signage
- Follow all CFN policies and procedures

Working Conditions:

- Working outdoors
- Field hours are flexible due to weather; schedule changes may be required including

nights and weekends depending on Department needs;
- Lift up to 30 pounds.

Preferred Qualifications:

- Anishinaabe community or Traditional Knowledge background
- Some environment education or experience in on-the-land work (i.e. forestry,

hunting/harvesting, fishing, archaeology, etc.) considered an asset;
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills;
- Experience working within Indigenous communities;
- Experience working outdoors;
- Ability to work in a team environment and individually;
- High standard of ethics and maintain confidentiality; understanding of Indigenous data

sovereignty (OCAP) an asset;
- Time management skills;
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

- Clean Criminal Records Check;
- Valid Class G license and clean driver’s abstract;
- Access to reliable and personal vehicle;
- Current car insurance policy.

Part-time/casual/on-call, in-person, typically 20 hours/week, and further hours or overtime as needed and approved by ED Manager; seasonal contract with renewal dependent on consecutive.
