**Job Description**:
***:Under the general supervision of the City Solicitor, and the technical direction and guidance from the Solicitor II, is responsible for liasing with external insurance adjusters, reviewing adjuster reports, and updating and maintaining file lists and databases with respect to internal and external insurance claims and insurance renewals.

**MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Liaises with external insurance adjusters, City staff, members of the general public, and lawyers representing members of the general public.
- Reviews and assesses external insurance adjusting reports and provides instructions to adjuster within approved monetary thresholds.
- Maintains orderly records of insured and self-insured losses.
- Co-ordinates with the City Solicitor, the Solicitor II and/or the Office Administrator in the preparation and budgeting of the insurance, including preparation of quarterly variance reports.
- Maintains orderly records regarding property, automobile and liability insurance policies of the corporation, and relevant local boards (e.g., TBayTel, Thunder Bay Police Services Board).
- Prepares certificates of insurance and reviews certificates of insurance for compliance with City insurance contract requirements, when required.
- Gathers, complies, and analyzes corporate information for annual insurance policy renewals, per the City Solicitor and/or Solicitor II.
- Maintains records regarding all insurance policy materials, inventory of assets, and recovery files.
- Maintains internal department policies and procedures for the reporting, investigating and handling of insurance claims.
- Maintains organized filing systems including hard copy and electronic information.
- Maintains updated and accurate claims history.
- Provides support and claims information, including internal and external claims and recoveries, to the Solicitor II and the Litigation Team as required.
- Processes invoices and arranges for payments to third party adjusters, as well arranges to pay settlement funds on claims, when required, per the direction of the City Solicitor, Solicitor II, and/or Litigation Team.
- Provides litigation support to the City Solicitor and Solicitor II when required.
- Performs such other related duties as may be assigned.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:
**Education/Experience**:

- Law clerk or legal administrative assistance diploma and three years’ experience in a law office; or
- Secondary school graduation and five years’ experience as a legal administrator/law clerk in a law office; or
- Secondary school graduation and five years’ experience in the insurance and/or insurance claims industry, or an insurance related field
- Knowledge and understanding of municipal liability and the ability to interpret applicable legislation and related regulations and standards

**Skills/Abilities**:

- Superior ability to communicate effectively and concisely, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with City Council, senior management, private and public officials, representatives from the insurance industry, superiors, co-workers, and the general public.
- Ability to identify, understand and meet/exceed the requirements of internal/external customers.
- Ability to exercise independent judgment when dealing with confidential or sensitive issues.
- Strong project/time management, analytical/critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Self-starter with proven organization skills.
- Must be proficient in the use of computers and current related software.

**Assets**:

- Experience with Excel, SAP, PC Law, ClearRisk.

**CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT**:

- Must take an Oath of Secrecy
- Will be required to travel to various work locations and provide own transportation
- Must undergo a successful Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check (CRJMC)
