**ACCOUNTABILITY STATEMENT**:
The Law Clerk, Real Estate is responsible for providing support for all functions of the real estate portfolio, including title search, conveyancing, contract drafting and leasing.

**MAJOR DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Respond to internal and external requests for realty information, including confirmation of

ownership and other title searches.
- Completes documentation to circulate surplus land through the Infrastructure Ontario’s Realty

Portal to have lands declared surplus to government.
- Completes legal documentation (releases, conveyancing documentation, transfer/deeds, etc.)

in accordance with legislation and policy for realty sales.
- Retrieves PINs and title documents from the Teraview automated land registry system.
- Maintains a list of all active leases.
- Administers and coordinates the leasing program, including working with the Finance

Department to ensure all leases are billed according to the agreements.
- Ensures lease renewals, rent increases and terminations are completed on time.
- Ensures the timely execution of all lease and crossing agreements.
- Enters agreements into MERX.
- Prepare all documentation for and manage the process for the disposal and leasing of

surplus land.
- Maintain and update a lease inventory and manage lease records, file review dates and taxation

information.
- Manage the realty land files and records, including digitizing if required.

**REQUIREMENTS**:

- College diploma in a law clerk or legal assistant program
- 5+ years’ experience in real estate legal practice areas including commercial leasing

and conveyancing
- Experience in investigating ownership of properties by searching and abstracting
- Ability to create a condensed history of title of land, consisting of a synopsis of all conveyances

which affect land and chain of title in both the former paper-based land registry system and the
electronic Teraview System

Business Corporations Act, the Land Registration Reform Act, the Land Titles Act, the Registry
Act, the Expropriations Act, the Residential Tenancies Act and any related regulations, standards
and/or provincial directives.
- Experience drafting and reviewing legal agreements and leases.
- Knowledge of file management best practices and the ability to organize and maintain hard

and electronic records
- Analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to provide excellent customer service and

prepare correspondence, memoranda, forms and land transfer documentation
- Above average ability to use a variety of software programs including Office 365 and GIS.
- Experience working in the public sector would be an asset
- Experience working with railways or public transportation would be an asset
- Occasional travel required to ONTC offices
