**The Position**:
Under the general direction of the Youth Wellness Coordinator, the Youth Program Assistant will work in a collaborative and culturally safe way to assist with planning and implementing the wellness, education and prevention programs and services for the Wellness Center and Recreation Programs.

**Duties Include**:
**Program Support**

Providing wellness support to children & youth.
- Work/liaise with the wellness team, education, health and social development departments by way of developing, delivering and evaluating culturally relevant wellness promotion and education programs, services, events and activities for shíshálh children and youth;
- Support planning, facilitation and/or coordination of evidence-based wellness related, prevention, education workshops, programs and/or presentations for children, youth, families, and/or the community using appropriate resources and technology;
- Work with the Recreation Coordinator to plan and deliver the recreation community events; Including, but not limited to, Christmas party, Halloween, Easter, Spring Break Camp, Summer Fun Program;
- Work with the wellness team to engage children and youth in the development of a wellness plan; this can include providing one-to-one behavioural and recreational support as part of a support plan for an individual child and/or youth.

**Youth Centre**

Assist the Wellness Center Manager in Overseeing the Youth Wellness Centre and related programs, services, budgets and supervise part-time staff.
- Responsible for assisting with the operation of the Youth Wellness Centre as it relates to the programs and services; this can include ensuring the centre is clean and organized, and that program supplies are in stock and in good order;
- Keep the manager and coordinator updated on all incidents and progress of the centre;
- Work collaboratively with the Wellness Team, Education, Health and Social Development Team.

**Interpersonal and Team Building**

Work collaboratively and cooperatively at all levels in order to support the use of a family-centred, strengths-based, youth-focused practices while assisting families in building their capacities to provide safe and nurturing environments for youths.
- Demonstrate behaviours, actions and attitudes that are consistent with the Nation’s vision, mission and values;
- Maintain and present a positive and professional image at all times;
- Provide opportunities for the enhancement and development of positive cultural identities of the youth, families and communities served;
- Ensure appropriate communication and consultation with Supervisor at appropriate times;
- Ensure effective and professional communications with all internal and external service providers: including clients, their families, management and staff;
- Share information according to privacy and/or confidentiality guidelines;
- Work respectfully, positively, professionally and collaboratively with team members;
- Must be able to handle sensitive information in a completely confidential manner.

**Administration and Reporting**

Complete administrative functions and reports and adhere to the Nation policies, procedures and relevant practices.
- Assist with the maintenance of files for each child and youth accessing Wellness Centre programs, including ensuring Intake and consent forms are up to date;
- Ensure confidentiality and safekeeping of all department and Nation documents and records;
- Support preparation and delivery of reports which can include updating Mustimuhw;
- May support the Youth Wellness Coordinator and the Child Wellness Coordinator with the events calendar, scheduling, supplies and equipment inventory management, reporting;
- Follow the department and Nation’s human resources, finance and other policies and procedures in the performance of duties.

**Other Duties**
- Participate in internal or external committees as required or assigned;
- Participate in the training curriculum provided through the Nation;
- Other duties as required and assigned within the scope of the position;
- From time to time you may be required to provide relief or back up to other employees with in your department, or within other departments as your training and experience makes appropriate.
- **Qualifications, skills and Abilities**:_

Minimum Education
- Grade 12 or equivalent;
- ECE certification, EA certificate or responsible adult training would be an asset;
- CPR and First Aid certificates are mandatory, or willingness to acquire at the first available opportunity within three (3) months of the date of hire;
- Food Safe certificate would be an asset.

Minimum Experience
- Three (3) years’ direct experience working with youths;
- Experience in a First Nation environment providing Youth Wellness Health services;
- Experience working with Aboriginal people, organizations and communities.
