Wellness Centre Program Supervisor

Under the direction and supervision of the Wellness Centre Manager, the Wellness Program Supervisor shall deliver culturally safe, trauma-informed service coordination, supervision, and administration for the shishalh Nation Child and Youth Wellness Centre front-line staff. This position includes managing services offered by the 'Child & Youth Wellness Teams', data and financial reporting, ongoing coordination of integrated services and front-line engagement with youth, families, community stakeholders, and other departments within the organization. These services will be delivered in accordance with the Wellness & Recreation policy guidelines and the Child and Youth Wellness Centre's mission and vision. The Program Supervisor will work closely with the Wellness Centre Manager to help deliver and improve programs and services to shishalh Nation children, youth, and their families.
The Wellness Center Program Supervisor will also perform supervisory, administrative, and professional duties in the organization's operations. Additionally, they will also work collaboratively with the CMS Events Coordinator, Child Program Coordinator, Recreation Coordinator and Traditional Wellness Coordinator in the design, implementation, and delivery of all wellness initiatives.
The Candidate:
Core Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist in the planning, development, and implementation of the Wellness Centre's After School programming, Youth drop-in, Spring and Summer Camps and special events in a way that promotes barrier-free access and is engaging for youth ages 5-18.
- Assist the Wellness Centre manager in ensuring all employees comply with the organization's policies, procedures, and standards.
- Direct, supervise and coordinate the activities and work of departmental staff.
- Work directly with programs with children and youth.
- Support the Child & Youth Wellness Team through a supervision model that includes being present in programming with children and youth, regular team meetings, debriefing and involvement in critical situations.
- Support staff in problem-solving matters related to clients or department operations.
- Make recommendations on department goals and objectives to support the Nation's strategic direction and to meet the needs of the community.
- Develop evaluation criteria for programs and evaluate and report on the success of programs in achieving their goals.
- Direct, supervise, and evaluate staff who may include Wellness Coordinators, Program Assistants and Youth on-call workers.
- Promote both shishalh & mainstream approaches to healing & helping.
- Set a tone of leadership that is child & family focused, collaborative in nature and aligns with the vision and mission of the Wellness Centre and its policies.
Relationship and Team Building:
- Demonstrate behaviours and attitudes that are consistent with the Nation vision, mission and values.
- Provide opportunities for the enhancement and development of positive cultural identities of the children, families, and the community.
- Ensure appropriate communication and consultation with the Wellness Centre Manager.
- Ensure effective and professional communication with all internal and external service providers.
- Share information according to privacy and/or confidentiality guidelines.
- Work respectfully, positively, professionally, and collaboratively with team members.
Monitoring and Quality Assurance:
- Ensure consistency of service delivery amongst staff in carrying out intake, registrations and oversee data collection and input processes.
- Contribute to the evaluation of service with respect to its effectiveness in meeting the community needs and achieving the Wellness Centre objectives and vision.
Staff Supervision:
- Assist the Wellness Centre manager with the interviewing and hiring of new staff.
- Monitoring and evaluation of staff performance.
- Supporting the professional development of staff.
- Ensuring staff adherence to both the Wellness Centre and the shishalh Nation's policies and procedures.
- Providing supervision through team meetings, debriefing and involvement in critical situations.

Qualifications, Skills and Abilities:
- 2 years of relevant work experience in managing programs and services, including managing staff and programs in a related field.
- A combination of education, training, and experience equivalent to the above will be considered.
- Knowledge and experience with current issues and programs related to First Nations and wellness programs.
- Must have a demonstrable ability to lead and motivate staff; to plan and organize work activities.
- Strong computer skills with proficiency in Windows, Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel and PowerPoint), and a willingness to learn new software programs.
- Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective and efficient working relationships with clients, their families, management, staff, and external stakeholders.
- Must have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to write clear and accurate reports.
- Must have excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and expeditiously under tight timeframes, deadlines, and competing priorities.
- Demonstrate tact, diplomacy and sound judgement.
- Prior supervisory experience.
- Project Management experience is an asset.
- Strict confidentiality requirements must be respectful of the needs and privacy requirements of the clients and maintain confidentiality regarding clients.
- Effective interpersonal skills, including tact and diplomacy.
- Knowledge of shíshálh Nation programs and services, or willing to learn.
- Respect for, sensitivity towards, as well as knowledge and understanding of shíshálh culture and traditions.
- Understanding of evidence-informed/evidence-based practices for promoting trauma, attachment, resilience and wellness-based mental health program services to youth.
- Knowledge of First Nation service delivery, customs, and traditions in responding to youth welfare concerns.
- Knowledge of external service and service agencies.
- Valid BC Driver's License.
- Acceptable Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search.
