**Violence Against Women Services Elgin County** supports women who are facing all forms of harm and abuse in their relationships and their children too. We deliver 24-Hour Drop-In Counselling; 24-Hour Community Help Line; and 24-Hour Emergency Shelter. You also don’t have to leave to talk about it as we deliver Community Based Care, Outreach, & Counselling for women who have been abused; women who have been sexually assaulted; women seeking support to obtain affordable housing; and children who have witnessed abuse. Help is immediate, respectful, and compassionate. Each year over 2,000 people find the help they seek.

We are hiring **Full Time Emergency Shelter Counsellors** to join our mighty team.

Work is in person at our 24-hour location in St. Thomas. Responsibilities include dynamic risk assessment and safety planning; holding the space for each person to be heard and believed; facilitating crisis support, counselling, and care plans; delivering practical support and information to help each woman in their pursuit of safety from harm; and ensuring support occurs in a warm and welcoming setting.

Qualifications needed for this opportunity include a strong commitment to and alignment with the vision, mission, values, and framework of the agency. A steadfast nimble spirit is also necessary to be comfortable with and remain grounded on days when things go differently than planned. You will also require:

- Sound analysis of the societal issue of gender based violence including its impact on women and children.
- Excellent communication and relationship skills evident in person, on the phone, and as part of a team.
- Curiosity, introspection, and openness to learning and growth.
- Demonstrated ability in dynamic risk assessment, safety planning, crisis support, counselling, and system navigation.
- Post-secondary Degree or Diploma in Social Work, Social Services, or equivalent.
- Work experience in a residential setting and/or related social service is preferred.
- Proficiency in MS Office computer programs (Word, Outlook, Excel).
- Ability to lift up to 30lbs.

A clear current Criminal Reference Check and Vulnerable Persons Screen, current CPR/First Aid certification, and access to reliable transportation is mandatory. Ability to work a variety of shifts including days, afternoons, nights, and weekends is required to support delivery of 24-hour services.

**Salary**: $47,000.00-$50,000.00 per year
