The Aquatics ASP (Aquatics Specialty Programs) Instructor at YMCA of Northern Alberta creates a safe and positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals while working on strategies to improve the members experience, affecting an increase in retention, program quality and overall member satisfaction in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Instructs ASP courses in accordance with YMCA Aquatics SAM Standards, and Lifesaving Society Policies and Procedures having prepared lesson plans accordingly and supports members and program participants in achieving their goals.
- Develops and maintains positive relationships with volunteers, members or program participants, and colleagues at all levels of the organization; helps participants and families connect with each other and the YMCA; and encourages parent or caregiver involvement.
- Conveys information on aquatics programs and schedules and as appropriate refers program participants and families to other programs.
- Maintains records in a timely manner as required (e.g., attendance, test sheets, evaluation forms, feedback loops).
- Checks all prerequisites at the start of the first class and submits all test sheets with all supporting documents to the ASP Supervisor within one week of a course end date.
- Receives regular feedback gracefully and applies feedback immediately to improve program quality in ASP courses.
- Knows and reviews all emergency procedures, pool standards and best practices; responds to situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies, procedures; completes related reports or recommendations as required.
- Ensures YMCA Aquatics SAM standards are consistently met or exceeded and supports the ASP Supervisor in responding to service issues with possible solutions in a timely manner.
- Is an active in-water ASP instructor when appropriate - Role models and consistently applies safety rules, policies, guidelines, in the aquatics area.
- Follows the Lifesaving Society Code of Conduct for Volunteers, all Lifesaving Society Policies and Procedures, and all ASP Policies outlined in the YMCA NAB Aquatics Policies and Procedures Manual.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:
- Minimum 18 years of age.
- Minimum 1-2 years’ swim instructing, lifeguarding or classroom experience in an aquatic’s environment
- Certifications Required: Standard First Aid (SFA) & CPR-C, Bronze Cross (BC) OR Lifesaving National Lifeguard (NL) and a Leadership Certification from The Lifesaving Society in First Aid Instructor (FA-I), Lifesaving National Lifeguard Instructor (NLI), and/or Lifesaving Swim Instructor (LSI)
- Lifesaving Trainer (T) or National Trainer (NT) certification an asset
- Must be able to work at any Edmonton location
- Able to obtain a Police Information Check with Vulnerable sector check
- Must obtain employer specific WHMIS and child abuse prevention training within 30 days of hire date
- Ability to maintain certification-level currency without expiry, as well as physical and mental readiness.
