Domestic Violence Outreach Worker

Job Summary
Reporting to the Supportive Housing and Outreach Manager, the Domestic Outreach Worker provides community-based support to women and children impacted by domestic violence. This role combines direct client services, education, advocacy, and community engagement to ensure survivors have access to trauma-informed, inclusive, and culturally responsive care. The Outreach Worker also builds relationships with community partners and contributes to public education and prevention efforts.
**Responsibilities**:
- Provide trauma-informed support and safety planning for survivors in community settings, including home visits, shelters, and partner agency spaces.
- Offer practical assistance and referrals to housing, legal, medical, and mental health services.
- Advocate for clients in systems such as criminal justice, income assistance, education, and healthcare.
- Develop and facilitate support groups and programming for women experiencing or recovering from violence.
- Assist former residents of the transition house with ongoing support and referrals.
- Maintain detailed and confidential client records, statistical reports, and use of OutcomeTracker software.
- Deliver public education initiatives and participate in community events to raise awareness of gender-based violence.
- Participate in interagency collaborations and community networks.
- Assist with court support, Emergency Protection Orders (EPOs), and high-risk case follow-ups.
- Accompany clients to appointments (legal, medical, social services) to provide advocacy and emotional support.
- Facilitate safety planning and risk assessments
- Provide warm referrals and support in navigating community and government programs
- Assist in accessing essential needs such as clothing, hygiene products, food, and school supplies for clients and their children.
- Maintain detailed client records, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality.
- Track service usage and program outcomes for monthly and quarterly reporting.
- Participate in ongoing training related to supporting DV/IPV survivors.
**Qualifications**:
- Education: Post-secondary education in social work, psychology, counselling, or a related field preferred.
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience in crisis intervention, gender-based violence support, or a similar role.
- Cultural Competency: Strong understanding of community resources and systems that affect survivors.
- Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills in English (French bilingualism preferred)
- Advocacy & Navigation: Knowledge of trauma-informed, feminist, and anti-oppressive frameworks.
- Data Management: Experience tracking program metrics, preparing reports, and handling confidential client information.
- Flexibility: Ability to work occasional evenings or weekends as needed.
- Other Requirements:
- Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle for client appointments preferred
- Satisfactory vulnerable sector and criminal record check.
