Job Summary
The Crisis Intervener (CI) plays a vital role in fostering a safe, welcoming, and supportive environment for women and children residing at Crossroads for Women (CFW). Aligned with our mission, to help women and children transition from crisis to empowerment through safe housing, education, and individualized support, this position provides frontline services including emotional support, crisis intervention, goal planning, advocacy, safety planning, and access to resources and referrals.
As a core member of our residential team, the CI contributes to the physical and emotional safety of the house, supports residents in their personal growth, and upholds the organization’s values of respect, dignity, and equity.
**Responsibilities**:
- Conduct intake interviews, screen prospective residents, and assist with orientation and house tours.
- Provide ongoing emotional support, goal-setting, and problem-solving assistance to residents.
- Support conflict resolution and foster a safe, respectful communal living environment.
- Assess resident needs and collaboratively develop action and safety plans.
- Offer information, referrals, and advocacy for internal and external services.
- Facilitate in-house meetings and support groups.
- Respond to in-house and crisis line situations with appropriate intervention and risk assessment.
- Support residents and callers experiencing trauma, intimate partner/domestic violence, mental health challenges, or substance use.
- Ensure house safety, cleanliness, and functionality, including light maintenance, grocery shopping, and supply management.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation, including case notes, logs, client files, and statistical records.
- Participate in volunteer/practicum student onboarding, supervision, and mentoring.
- Shadow and support new staff alongside the House Manager.
- Participate in training, team meetings, and agency events.
- Ensure completion of client evaluations prior to discharge.
- Liaise with external agencies and service providers.
- All other front-line duties that align with supporting and empowering women and children accessing Crossroads’s services.
**Qualifications**:
- Education and Experience: Post-secondary education in social work, psychology, counselling, or a related field preferred. Relevant experience in crisis intervention, support work, or a combination of formal training and lived experience.
- Cultural Competency: Cultural humility and respect for diversity in all forms.
- Knowledge of local community resources, mental health and addiction services, and relevant legislation related to intimate partner violence.
- Bilingualism in English and French (spoken and written) is preferred.
- Communication: Strong communication, interpersonal, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Advocacy & Navigation: Trauma-informed, feminist, and anti-oppressive practice framework.
- Able to maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality.
- Flexibility: Ability to work occasional evenings or weekends as needed.
- Other Requirements:
- Satisfactory vulnerable sector and criminal record check.
- Legal eligibility to work in Canada.
- ASSIST, CPR and First Aid certification (ongoing training provided).

Responsabilités
- Mener des entretiens d'admission, sélectionner les résidents potentiels et aider à l'orientation et aux visites de la maison.
- Fournir un soutien émotionnel continu, fixer des objectifs et aider les résidents à résoudre leurs problèmes.
- Soutenir la résolution des conflits et favoriser un environnement de vie commune sûr et respectueux.
- Évaluer les besoins des résidents et élaborer en collaboration des plans d'action et de sécurité.
- Fournir des informations, orienter les résidents vers des services internes et externes et défendre leurs intérêts.
- Faciliter les réunions internes et les groupes de soutien.
- Répondre aux situations internes et aux situations de crise par une intervention appropriée et une évaluation des risques.
