Directions Youth Services is a division of Family Services of Greater Vancouver (FSGV), which for more than 90 years has provided a variety of essential resources for children, families and individuals in the Greater Vancouver community. We believe in the resiliency of Vancouver’s youth who are unhoused and street-involved. We assist youth under the age of 25 to get counselling for trauma, mental health or substance use. Our teams strive to create spaces and build connections with youth who are facing challenges of street life, substance use, mental health concerns, and disconnection from their communities. Directions inclusive programs of shelter and drop-in, safe houses and other unique programs are committed to being a community leader in harm reduction work and fostering low-barrier spaces where all youth are welcome.

Afterhours Supervisor coordinates the daily program functions of After Hours Addictions Response Program; provides supervision and support on the floor to front-line staff, students and works directly with unhoused, street-involved youth. The After Hours Addictions Response Program operates between the hours of midnight and 8:00am over seven days a week and between the hours of 8:00am and 4:00 Saturday, Sunday and Holidays. This full time, 37.5 hours/week position reports to the Assistant Manager, Directions Youth Service Centre

This position and the front-line staff it supervises works to promote safer, healthier alternatives to youth, and where possible, to assist in their transition from the street to residences, providing referral information where possible to eligible and ineligible clients. The position will consist of working with a variety of unhoused youth struggling with substance use, including those who are neurodiverse and/or face emotional/social challenges.

**Work Hours**: 37.5 hours salary/ week

- Friday; 7.5 paid hours shift/ week, plus one unpaid meal break).

**Salary**: GS 11 $30.81/ hour

What you bring:
**Education and training**:

- Bachelor’s degree in related human/social services field and/or a combination of education and experience.
- Current First Aid Certificate, Naloxone Training, and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training an asset (will be provided if necessary).

**Experience**:

- Minimum five years experience working with youth, preferably in support of youth who are unhoused, street-involved, and/or use substances.
- Applicants with personal experience with addiction or street involvement require a minimum two years clean/sober.
- A combination of education and experience may be considered.

**Knowledge, Skills and Abilities**:

- Knowledge of community, social and health resources
- Knowledge of the systemic issues that affect low income and marginalized people
- Knowledge of substance use, adolescent development and the problems encountered by chemically dependent individuals; basic understanding of behavioral management
- Basic knowledge of mental health issues and treatment
- Ability to observe and recognize change in clients
- Ability to maintain professional boundaries with clients
- Ability to establish and maintain rapport with clients
- Ability to deal effectively with conflict situations, manage aggressive behavior, and use non-violent crisis intervention and behavioral management techniques
- Ability to communicate proficiently both verbally and in writing
- Ability to organize, prioritize and meet deadlines
- Ability to establish/maintain satisfactory work relationships with the public and other employees to deal tactfully and effectively with co-workers, public and other agencies and to maintain confidentiality
- Ability to work independently and a part of a team
- Ability to work in a culturally diverse population
- Basic computer literacy
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position
