**Position Overview**
Romero Distilling Co. is looking for an experienced Cook to join their team on a full time basis. The Cook contributes to our guest experience by preparing elevated dishes and providing new ideas for our ever
- evolving menu. This is a hands-on role that combines cooking duties with some management responsibilities.
**About Us**
Building on the largely untold history of rum running in the west, Romero Distilling Co. is a family owned and operated distillery with a focus on producing luxury Canadian rum. Our front of house experience includes, full serve cocktail bar and restaurant, tours and tastings, and retail sales of rum and merchandise. The decor has a speakeasy feel, but it is family friendly, providing an upscale experience without pretension.
**Key Responsibilities**
**Leadership & Supervision**
- Supervise, train, and motivate junior staff.
- Ensure adherence to company policies, service standards, and health/safety regulations.
- Lead by example in maintaining a clean, efficient, and positive kitchen environment.
**Kitchen Operations**
- Oversee daily food preparation, cooking, plating, and presentation standards.
- Coordinate with the Bartender and service staff to ensure smooth and timely service.
- Ensure portion control and recipe adherence to maintain consistency.
- Monitor and maintain kitchen equipment functionality and report repair needs promptly.
**Inventory & Cost Control**
- Order and receive food and supply deliveries; maintain par levels and minimize waste.
- Conduct weekly inventory counts and update stock records.
- Control food costs and track usage to maintain profitability.
- Work with Bar Manager and Bartender on menu updates, specials, and seasonal changes.
**Health & Safety Compliance**
- Ensure compliance with local health codes, sanitation requirements, and workplace safety standards.
- Train junior staff on safe food handling, storage, and preparation practices.
- Conduct regular temperature checks, cleaning schedules, and food rotation.
**Administration**
- Assist in creating and maintaining kitchen labor schedules to balance costs with demand.
- Track prep lists, daily checklists, and production logs.
- Participate in weekly meetings and provide updates on kitchen performance.
**Qualifications**
- 2+ years in various roles in a restaurant or bar setting.
- Strong culinary knowledge with ability to train and mentor junior staff.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Working knowledge of food safety regulations and certifications.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
**Physical Requirements**
- Ability to stand for extended periods (8+ hours).
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs (food orders, equipment).
- Comfortable working in hot and busy kitchen conditions.
**Compensation & Benefits**
- Competitive hourly wage of $15-20/hour plus tips depending on experience.
